Mike / Ovation: I see that you are in Japan. A country that would not understand the values of Christ, which in some ways explains your attitude. As for the dates, yes, it is important, especially as the dates that Clarky refers too only serve to reveal him as a heretic. When the nails were driven through the wrists of Christ he wept, for he knew that people like you and Clarky were beyond saving. Yet he still died for your sins. God bless. Peace.

PhrygianDominant, I was aware of the CFCFAC tuning for the Rhythm guitar. When you play the rhythm using this tuning, it sounds correct. The confusion began as to what lead was played in. I assumed it was the same tuning. Apparently, my assumption was off which may be why I was having so much trouble getting lead to sound right.
(line) Can anyone recommend other guitarists to listen to (eventhough none can be as good as Joe). I listen to Vai, Johnson, and some Gary Hoey (which can be very weak at times). any other suggestions?

Natsa, Glad to hear that Jesus is your Lord and Savior but Clarky is correct, Jesus was not born on December 25. The month and date of Jesus birth are NOT mentioned in the Bible. The New Catholic Encyclopedia acknowledges: "The date of Christ's birth is not known. The Gospels indicate neither the day nor thr month...accepted by most scholars today, the birth of Christ was assigned the date of the winter solstice ( December 25 in the Julian calendar) because on this day, the pagan devotees of Mithra celebrated the dies natalis Solis Invicti ( birthday of the invincible sun). On Dec 25, 274 Aurelian had proclaimed the sun-god the principal patron of the empire. Natsa, can you see where the birthday of one God was replaced by another? The Encyclopedia Americana says:"The reason for establishing Dec 25 as Christmas is somewhat obscure, but it is usually held that the day was chosen to correspond to pagan festivals...The Roman Saturnalia also took place at this time, and some Christmas customs are thought to be rooted in this ancient pagan celebration." Bible scholars also agree that Jesus was born sometime in the fall not the winter, Clarky was right there too. Natsa, I am not asking you to believe me, please do the research yourself. The important thing to remember is that Jesus died for our sins and THAT date is in the bible.

PARSELL - Here's a few for you.......... Frank Zappa (Albums - Hot Rats and Shut Up and Play Your Guitar)....... Paul Gilbert, Uli Jon Roth, John Petrucci, Shawn Lane (Rock Based)........ Mike Keneally, Pat Metheny, Alan Holdsworth (Jazzish/ Avante Garde), other personal favorites in the rock vein would be Nuno Bettencourt (Ex Extreme) and Vito Bratta (Ex White Lion - great sense of melody), You could also try out John McClaughlin, Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola (especially together - classical/jazz sorta sound) Hope this is helpful, but they are only my tastes. ;-)

I have to agree with Clarky!....December 25 th was celebrated by the Pegans for reasons other than the birth of Christ.Don't quote me but I THINK it was a Pegan New Year celebration. That's why they put lights in the trees. We just adopted that tradition.Christmas is over rated anyway.......Baa......Baa......humbug

I thought Nashville tuning was when you replaced the wound strings with unwound and then tuned them up an octave. This way, you can still pay chords using the standard grips, but you get an interesting, 12-string type sound, since there are a lot of unison notes going on. Meybe this is what ethn meant to say, or maybe I'm full of it and wrong... who knows?

stu clone - an interesting thing about effects is knowing how the effect messes with the input signal. When you start getting your head around this stuff, it makes life alot easier when setting up sounds because you can think more in terms of the egress waveform your looking for and therefore, how to achieve it. It means that you can get closer to the sound you're looking for quicker and with less 'fumbling around' with controls....

Matt - no I was not putting down your knowledge.... lol.... I was trying to add to it.....

aug 6ths are mostly used around cadences particularly during a modulation....

Here's and interesting little thing for you to do.... Work out a German 6th in the key of Am. Then look at the intervals this chord creates with respect to it's bass note [so you can re-name the chord]...... let me know what you come up with - and no cheating by studying Schubert / Beethoven Symphonies....... the German 6th is a favourite of mine for the very reason that I'm hoping you to discover.......

If I put you down it is to do with your self confidence...... you are a fine palyer..... know it within your self... be comfortable knowing it.... but never rest on it - continue to strive....

ovation - a real nice modulation by Vai occurs in Tender Surrender... beautiful stuff...

Me and Natsa had quite a drains up in the chat room around 6 to 9 months ago

The overall vibe was "is Christianity just a sect / diversion from the original Jewish faith and if so, does that not mean that it is a dilute form of the original faith"

So we debated the christian thing and my take is that, to me [being non religious] Christianity seems to have been completely manufactured by those that wielded the power - so the pope could act as a King of people without needing to be the king of a nation... the faith was therefore bent to serve political a purpose in the name of God..... which renders it 'a fabrication' under the guise of an organised faith...

The true faith [if you feal the need to be religous] I guess from a historical angle would be Judaism / Essene

does my thinking make me a biggot??? lol lol

Natsa: Jesus died for his own sins, not mine! But I know who you really are! It's not Satan, its Santa. And he's trying to work out all the good girls and boys on T2J so he can send their presents. Well...go suck the big pink one. Whatever I need I steal.

GutterBoy: you might be full of it(LOL), but you're right about Nashville tuning. There's NO WAY you could tune your E B and G strings up an octave without seriously wrecking your neck! Yes - you get some unwound strings and replace the E A and D strings, and tune them up an octave

R6R: nothing like wagging it to play guitar, is there? ;-)

FIABD Discussion: I think if the melody guitar was tuned differently it would say, but I'm not a TAB reader ;-)

Later everyone, have a great weekend.. oh and even if my mouth's open, please don't shove your religious views down it ;-)
