Hey all at T2J! Both Steven Wilde and i ahve been going thru some changes as of late. I have been trying to get done with surgery to my feet to correct the ulcerating build-up of bone. the doc's are taking their time, and making sure that they do it right the first time. My oldest Brother just had open-heart surgery and is doing fine, concidering. Steven is gettin used to some new friends, and becoming the principal house "Man" as his Dad is moving to a care facility-retirement home at the end of the month. He misses you all, but has had little time to go on-line. I will stay on him to find some time with his funky schedule. JOE: You are the Best! I find thigs in my playing, and others, that remind me of the Las Vagas concert. That was a "Night." Do you remember the guy in the "Alien" glasses at the house of blues? Keep Rockin' Joe satriani band! More when I get my new comp to work better for me. Randell

Yoda survey

1) Do you own any tuitional DVDs/videos?
Yes, I do.

2) If yes, do you find them helpful? Which ones are they? If yes, why?
Yes, Some more than others. I have the John Petrucci which is OK. Not worth the cost those. For what you get, $50 is too high. The intructional stuff I like the best is not a DVD or Video but just a CD and that is the Jamie Abersol stuff.

3) If no, do you think you would find this kind of medium helpful?

4) What kind of content do you think should be covered on a tuition DVD/video?
There should be a couple different levels, from beginner to advanced covering things from guitar and hand position to tricks. Maybe talking about playing other types of music and learning phrasing from other instruments. How to practice or at least recommendations to books on how to practice. Maybe there could be a whole DVD just on practicing.

5) What kind of content do you think should NOT be covered by a tuition DVD/video?
My need to get back to you.

6) Ideally, how long do you think a tuition DVD/video should last?
2 hours

7) Ideally, how much do you think a tuition DVD/video should cost (approximate GBP if possible please)?
At a 2:1 ratio (pounds to dollars) about 12 pounds.

8) Do you think there are enough quality tuition DVDs/videos currently available?
I think that there are a lot of not so good ones.

9) Would you buy a tuition DVD/video from an 'unknown' guitar player?
If it came recommended.

Neil, the other thing to keep in mind on this is the pupose of the DVD. Is the pupose to teach or is the pupose to make money. The two don't always live in the same house. I think if you look at the long term a more teaching type will eventually make more as the reputation begins to spread. It will just take a while. Or maybe you need to look at a particular niche and exploit that. Just things to ponder.

Hey Joe...just wanted you to know...that you have fans in the deep south also. I've been a fan every since I heard Surfing With The Alien for the first time in 1987...and that was a bad-ass album...and every one after that is still as astonishing. I just wanted to say thanks for the tunes, and the awsome inspiration you have given me to become a better player.

civgeek - Thanks for taking the time to do that. My objective with the DVD is to provide a valuable teaching resource; ie. the money isn't important to me as it's going to cost me next to nothing to actually put it together. All I'm aiming to do is have a DVD that teaches people, rather than demonstrates my own ability as a player. Of course, the bonus is that if the DVD gathers any kind of popularity it will boost my profile as an artist, but that is not the priority.

Drum Lessons

Rush drummer Neil Peart reportedly will put out a second instructional video, called Anatomy of a Drum Solo. The stickman's previous tutorial DVD, A Work in Progress, was issued in 2002. Peart also is penning a new book, tentatively titled Roadshow: Landscape With Drums, a Concert Tour by Motorcycle, about his 2004 travels through North America and Europe. Both projects are due to be released in December 2005 or January 2006.

LONDON (Reuters) - The word "fail" should be banned from use in British classrooms and replaced with the phrase "deferred success" to avoid demoralizing pupils, a group of teachers has proposed.

Members of the Professional Association of Teachers (PAT) argue that telling pupils they have failed can put them off learning for life.

A spokesman for the group said it wanted to avoid labeling children. "We recognize that children do not necessarily achieve success first time," he said.

"But I recognize that we can't just strike a word from the dictionary," he said.

The PAT said it would debate the proposal at a conference next week.

Police send nude shopper home with warning

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police let a nearly naked shopper go home after she told them she was getting groceries in the nude because she lost a spin the bottle contest, a police spokesman in Cologne said Wednesday.

"We're a tolerant city that is open to the world," said spokesman Burkard Jahn. "She could have been arrested for disturbing the peace, but we decided to let her go home with a verbal warning to dress appropriately next time."

The 35-year-old Cologne woman entered the 24-hour shop at 4 a.m. wearing nothing but an unbuttoned jeans jacket, Jahn said. He said police decided to let her go because few people and presumably no small children saw her at that time of day.

Primus veterans reunite for new album

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Primus' classic lineup of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander will hit the studio later this year to record its first album together since 1995's "Tales From the Punchbowl."

It will be Primus' first new studio album since 1999's "Antipop," which featured Claypool, LaLonde and drummer Brain. It is unknown if the new set will be released by Claypool's Prawn Song imprint or via another label.

Claypool, LaLonde and Alexander regrouped in the fall of 2003 for a North American tour and the Interscope release of a DVD/CD, "Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People."

On Saturday, the group will be the only performer at the revived Lollapalooza festival in Chicago that was a part of the event in its 1990s heyday. Claypool will also play a solo show the night before at the Vic Theatre.
