962 - That last Petrucci remark was a little harsh! The guy practiced for hours a day for years to be as good as he is (which is f!$%£&g good!) - He's pushed the threshold of rock guitar with his DT and LTE work. This site is dedicated to (arguably) the best guitarist in the world, and guitar playing in general... show some respect! Stay safe. K

Hey guys! I'm new here but it seems like its pretty cool. Wonder if somebody could help me out...see, I play mostly acoustic stuff (played electric years ago but i haven't in a while) but i'm looking at buying an electric very soon (mostly for soloing and riffing all kinds of music....mostly rock). I am seriously considering a few ibanez guitars....any of you play and S or an RG (or a JS signiture) or any other guitar for that matter.... If you do, i'd love your opinions/feedback. Do you have any guitar suggestions JOE??? P.S. price range is no more than $1000 canadian....tops (hopfully a bit less)

Austin it sounds like it is though the work sounds hard too. my sister is a freshmen in college. she did great in high school but right now she is dong really bad. I guess its just way harder cuase she is really smart and works hard.

OCPS470 I thought it was an S series. they are pretty cool. I dont know what they exact bridge is but it is a new one and its not a Floyd Rose. I think its the new Ibanez bridge, it holds it in tune pretty well but of course it isnt perfect. it goes out a little but not often. I like it. also, what should I get effects wise if i want to just take a note and hold it forever, just a better amp or what?

Mikesan sure thing. I like his music, I want to get his album whenever it comes out. and I will have fun-band practice is tonight. even thouhg its the church band we still do some cool stuff and our leader is a very awsome guitarist. hes amazing. not like Joe but still very good

Mischievous are you a hater now too? just kidding. but yeah I am doing fine. I think I already asked but I forgot. are you gonna get to see Joe live? that would be cool. if you get the chance, do it!

J_BOSS; Ya know, If you really want to find out if a guitars right for YOU, the only way is to try it ;) Everyone's different. I have an Ibanez RGT42, through my sweet little fender prac amp :) and I can definitely reccommend that model, may be a little low in price for you though. K

Check out www.ibanez.com (best guitars in the world, no, their not paying me off to say that!)

P.S. Sorry Newsman, I'm a big Petrucci fan :D

Ya-Yo-Gak I can understand where you are coming from about thinking Yngwie smashing his guitar is outdated, but when you see someone do it live it can be a whole lotta fun. I saw Malm about 10 years ago where he set his guitar on fire and then threw it into the crowd, while it was still lit. Got to say, it was really cool. The crowd tore it to shreds like a pack of animals. I have a piece I proudly display with all my other concert crap.
Jazzyboy / Mikesan There is still hope for Mettalica their next studio album could be really amazing because there new bass player Robert Trujillo is the most incredible bass player I have ever seen, and I have seen alot.
Robert Trujillo, Steve Harris and Pete Way for B3
Mischivious What difference does it make if JS/JS wants to multipost? If you dont like it you dont have to read them. People are way to hung up on this number of posts thing.
Zenfish Your postings are like deep man. Im not being condescending either. They sound like freaken philosophy or something. Maybe its the language thing. Anyway, I enjoyed it.
Juju / UFDean I am a huge Kevin Smith fan. Mallrats is just the best. I cant believe the acadamy snubbed it at Oscar time.
on the whole downloading thing. If I can get unreleased stuff. I figure its fair game. If I could buy it I would, but I cant, so I download it. I gotta admit if I knew I could hear the new Satch songs a month early I would probally be a scumbag and do it. I would still buy the CD when it came out, but its like offering smack to a junkie, I just cant say no. I got rid of Kazza though, it kept locking up my computer.

Hey DelfinoPie!!

I'm also in block B - but about 10 rows back (sob sob!!) - I tried bribing the girl on the ticket line to give me front row seats but she wouldn't help me!! Still... 10 rows can't be that bad - at least we'll be central to the stage. My guitar teacher's going too - he's up in the gods though!!

The JS1200... I can't wait!! Just watching Live In Denver on DVD and most of the Satch stuff at the beginning is played on one... it's gorgeous!! Just a shame I can't play like the man himself!!

If you fancy a beer at the concert - give me a shout!!

Hi Joe,

Congratulations on your successful tours and I'm glad to see all of your hard work and dedication has paid off. You certainly deserve it! I have been listening to your music for many mnay years and I have always considered you to be the very best guitarist of all time. I had the privalige to see a couple of your shows this past two years one at the House of Blues in Hollywood California and the second show at the Humphreys by the Bay in San Diego with Steve Vai and Ynwie Malmsteen. Exellent shows!!!

I read an older interview you had with Keith from "Metal-Rules" the question (WHY DO YOU THINK "GUITAR GODS" IS MISSING FROM TODAYS BANDS). You answered: They are lazy! I completely agree with you and thats why I stopped listening to bands with singing involved. I want to hear the talent of the musicians especially the guitarist. You have created the music that all guitarist aike can relate to. Your passion and your heart is so strongly expressed through your guitar playing that it draws everybody in. Thanks for creating music that Guitarists and guitar playing enthusists can listen to. These bands today only play a selected few power cords and choppy solos I loose intrest very fast.

I have a question for you Joe.......Have you ever thought of having Eddie Van Hallen play in one of your G3 Tours? Eddie is a very talented and creative guitarist with a unique syle who also loves to experiment with different sounds like yourself and it's a shame that we do not get to hear his playing anymore. I personally think a G3 Tour with Eddie would be another big hit.

Hope to see you in L.A. again soon and I look forward to hearing the new album.

(P.S.) You need to do more DVD's.

Randy

962: Things are getting better and better, thanks for asking. And yeah, it is kinda funny to watch someone play that kill yer cheatin wife kinda blues and then be as friendly as a good neighbor afterwards. Actually, I wish he was my neighbor. My neighbors aren't friendly at all. They suck lol.

Flagg: In the words of Steve Vai, "Fuck yourself with a copy of Rolling Stone, or are they too holy for your holiest of holes. Now those people think they are holier than Moses, but aren't they just a bunch of fuckin' posers?" That isn't directed at you by the way. I'm not telling you to fuck yourself. Just sharing the common hate of the evil and oppression of Rolling Stone Magazine lol. Oh, and if Steve could have fit it in, I'm sure he'd tell them to do it in the back of a Volkswagon lol! Kevin Smith rocks!

I'm so glad the weekend is here. I've had three midterms in the past two days...ugh.

I'm posting this message now because it's a long one, but I still have 63 posts to read...

Quintinl - Welcome to the site! There are a few members here from the UK...I'm sure one of them will be able to answer your question.

badandymac - That drawing was done by Z.Z., Joe's son.
Joeman9 - Are you talking about the harmonic intro / call and response thing that Joe does with Stu?

Here's a starting point for you for the harmonic thing...

e|---------------
B|---------------
G|-------5-------
D|-----5---5-----
A|-5-4-------4-5-
E|---------------

Here's another harmonic bit from Summer Song...

e|-----------------------------
B|-----------------------------
G|-------5-------5-------------
D|-----5---5-------5-----------
A|-5-4-------4-5-----5-4-5-4-5-
E|-----------------------------

Also, remember that when you play harmonics, make sure your finger is directly above the fret (not slightly behind the fret, as it would be if you were actually fretting the notes).

Start slow...

PhrygianDominant - In the situation you described, you are technically infringing on the rights of the copyright holder when you download songs to replace your broken CD. Downloading isn't considered "fair use" under US copyright law, even if you have (or, had at one point in time) legally purchased a copy of the album.

I own all of Joe's albums. If I were to go onto Kazaa and download Mind Storm, I would be breaking copyright law (because the file I downloaded didn't come from my personal copy of SBM). However, I am allowed to put my own copy of SBM into my CD-ROM drive and rip my own MP3 of the song for my own personal use (my own personal listening).

Copying a CD for a friend is also not considered "fair use", and is again a violation of US copyright. However, it's nearly impossible to punish people who commit these violations (copying on a 1:1 basis, essentially). If you broke your copy of SBM and I made you a replacement copy, it would technically violate copyright...but it would again be nearly impossible to punish the crime.

This 1:1 copying is VERY different from P2P filesharing, where one person buys an album and hundreds/thousands/millions of people get it for free. You see the difference, right? The use of MP3s that you described is completely different from the problem that's hurting the music industry...

Does all of that make sense? I know it's probably much more than you would ever want to know about this topic, but oh well. ;-)

...Austin...

Jelly - have you ever tried using aug 6ths to modulate?

yoda - and when I was playing the Lute suite didn't you notice the switch from f to p durong the section with the pedal notes.. if not.. my technique is slipping..

playing a quick passage at forte and switching to piano without losing time is really tough... requires great concentration and control....

maybe I should start adding this kind of thing into the next album...

vfr - ha.. softening with age... lol.. you not heard of foreplay foreplay??.. so are you one of those "wade straight in with the pickaxe handle" types... typical... no class.. no finesse... lol..
mikesan - ha.. invade France anyway?.. shit.. I'm English.. I won't need to be asked twice.. invading France is a national sport here.. lmao...

J_BOSS: Heya man....I echo what others have posted for ya. Best way to pick a guitar is to go to the shops and demo the floor models. Find what fits your fingers and body stance the best, and make your decision based on the tone:price ratio. I have an Ibanez JS1000 and an Ibanez RG570. Both great guitars, but both are VERY different. Tools in the toolbox, so to speak. Its always good to have a couple different guitars plus backups if you're a regular gigger, so you can explore a wide range of techniques, tones, and musical styles. Some guitars do somethings better than others. My RG is great for heavy metal and drop D flogging. My JS is great for Blues, Rock, and Jazz. So which one I pick up on a given day has alot to do with what kind of music I'm interested in playing at the moment. Experiment. Play any guitar you think you might like. After a while, you find something that suits you.

Good luck.

Oh, you can check out pics of my guitars, my guitar geek setup, and some of my older musical experiments HERE if yer interested.

**Peace** KenC.
