Hey Joe, all,
been a while. I actually agree with Ishta ,so just thought I'd put my two critical cents in about SC. I understand as an artist Joe must evolve or die of boredom, but I think the last couple albums' evolution has been away from what I loved Satch for: Strong driving melodies, strong drums, and of course the controlled shredding! But it seems Joe is on a new path now in his career. What's different about Joe now, you might say? It's his song structure. As some who have been on the boards a while will remember it was said that Joe was down and looking for a shot of energy when he did the silver Joe Satriani record. I think the type of raw grooves he had on that record coupled with the G3 tours and the Record, Tour, Record schedule he's been using has started to alter his approach to playing into a more "live band"- jam type of style. It's undeniable if ya listen to the last three albums. I'm not saying that Joe has lost his "ability" or anything like that, just that he's now using a "jam" type style instead of the controlled studio stuff that he began his career with.
The Super Colossal stuff isn't bad and some of the opening riffs had me, but then as soon as the melodies kick in they seem to drag instead of soar like on Speed of Light or One Big Rush. THAT was the Joe that blew everyone away. Solid, emotional, CLEAN, planned, studio-type shreds. That's what's been missing since Crystal Planet IMHO. If you listen to the middle sections on most of his new tunes, the new style seems to meander until he finally returns to song's opening hook, where as his old style was to have the solos and mid-sections in harmony with the opening hooks.
I understand it's joe's career, not mine, and mean no disrespect to him or anyone's opinions about the new album but I had to share my disappointment and my concern about joe's new sound direction.
peace

Hello Friends,
Just a quick message to say two things....
1. Have you heard of Dragonforce...the guitar player and the drummer just play faster than is humanly possible...they are amazing...through the Fire and Flames is the only tune I have heard at the moment but it is amazing (my son is bringing home three albums tomorrow though)...check it out people...their influences are all your influences!
2. Just finished a bit of a weird picture of Hendrix..which you can check out at the usual place Photobucket.com..search Satriella..let me know if you think I should do the bottom half or leave as is...anyone with Guitar World with Satch on the front can see the picture I used...although if you do that you will see what a bad rendition my picture is...but you will also see what a pain the other half will be to do!
Have a great evening everyone!
Hugs Satriella xx

Joe-I've been a long time listener and can't wait to hear your new album--you have never failed to impress and you've basically taught me how to play guitar. I owe you more than you know, my man! Thanks for being an inspiration, an entertainer, and a teacher! One of these days, I'm bound and determined to catch you at a live show (I'm pretty far off the grid)! Keep up the great work!
Ben

Just got my cd from Sony...although I heard it all yesterday..and I'm always surprised..having taking Joe's music to heart for nearly 20 years...all I can say is..it's no wonder he is such a highly respected guitarist among his peers..he is indeed one of the most expressive...there is..and there are many who are very good...Joe just seems to execute in a special way..that makes his very own voice..and that is what we should all be striving for...uniqueness..!! Great work again Joe...!! by the way...my disc is signed..many thanks Joe..

Hey Joe!!! Just wanted to say the new album is awesome!
Very cool and very soulfull. I especially like the way you ended the album using the "Crowd Chant" Jam. I'd have to agree with you on that one being a fun one to perform live. Sounds like a good one to have either at the start or end of your setlist!! Looking forward to hopefully being able to see you play sometime this year. Stay cool and inspired.

Joe has been my number one guitarplayer since i first heard him around 1992. Too bad for me i live in sweden and have only been able to see him live once and that was when he played with Deep Purple at the sweden rock festival in 1994. Anyway, last week i found some videoclips of a 25 year old unknown but VERY great guitarplayer from Brazil named Oziel Filho (calls himself Ozielzinho). You just have to check out the videosection on his homepage at www.ozielzinho.com.br! If you don't want to check out all clips then at least check out the Yngwie Malmsteen cover of Far beyond the sun (not the live version) and the Re Minor Philarmonic! Of course Joe's still my number one, but this guy is definitely one of the greatest guitarplayers i've ever seen! I can't understand how a guy can play like that without being known all over the world, especially among guitarplayers. Imagine him at a G3 show, wouldn't that be great? Make it happen Joe! And do it in sweden!

AXEMAN: I will send you some specifics about my guitar playing and stuff via e-mail ....with your permission...of course. This web site says only 3 year experience, but that's just the past few years where I've been applying my self to learning from dvd's and teachers such as Tony Burnett, and John McCarthy from Rockhousemethod.com. I originally started when I was 14years old. I'm 47 now. I'm a 25 year retired? chef. Yes Pleasanton is close....going to spitzers music to meet/greet with Joe? 1931 market street concord. THE HAWK: Yea, best of luck with working with/for Joe. I've only lost a toe, but would play bass for Joe, If'in' I could do well at a rehersal/tryout. Love that rasberryJam DeltaV! Yes I play both bass and guitar. JOE: There is plenty of buzz out there for your new album! Great stuff Meastro! Randell
