DCK When you saw Buckethead, did he play with a band backing him or was it all a solo performance?

haha Powerslave good one...and Mr Nick--i asked my friend what N standed for (for her to come up with a word that starts with N) and she said Nick ahahahah...no joke (it's b/c she likes this guy named Nick, but a funny coincedence anyways)....I just got back from seeing the Notebook...it made me cry of course-but it was a good movie nonetheless

Do The Stu If you can't tell SWTA's basstab by ear, look at the guitar, that will help in deciding the notes.

anibur - Rubina has dark features. I think Z.Z. looks more like Rubina than Joe. Then again, I haven't seen many pictures of Joe with hair...so it's hard to make the comparison. ;-)

The Prez - You're confused... I can play SWTA on bass. Brother al can't.

One of the many reasons I despise Elmo is that he takes valuable screen time away from the Cookie Monster.

IIRC, Japan has a living legends treasures program. If there was a US equivalent, I would've nominated Jim Henson and Chuck Jones. And Satch ;-)

Any chance of getting tickets to Joe's show Wed, Aug 18 Holmdel, NJ PNC Bank Arts Center. This site shows that there are no tickets available. Is that true?

Thanks.

962: I think the S series is somewhere between the JS and Jem...the wizard II is thicker and has more radius than the jem neck, but is flatter and thinner than the JS neck. The body shape and wood seem to make it good all around for all techniques. The electronics in the JS and em are vastly different though...the Evo's are designed for high high output and cut, whereas the FRED is designed for heavey mids and sharp harmonic overtones. I really noticed this differrence when I was jammin' with Matt King. His tone had such balls and a very bluesy vibe (much of it is Matt but still..) and my S470 (having an Airzone and AirNorton) had a much more fusiony even tone. I think that is why the Jem seems better at shreddy things...IMO the JS really has a blues soul. Killer guitars though! Maybe you just need to get a JS and change the pickups?

OCPS470 the evo's are awesome..i use em in my trio and its full and nasty... my friend has the freds and they are nice but not hot enough..(i dont use a super high gain sound) so i like the evos a bit better. but my jem is basswood.

Joe, we'll miss you in the Cincinnati area.

With all the scale patterns out there do you have any recommendations that work best to get that good melodic feel? I seem to be stuck on diatonic blocks and not getting around the neck very well. How did you start out and was your soloing underway before schooling?

Any help from you or your staff would be helpful.

962: Kuul man on the JS tryout!!.... I look at the two models the same way you do, JEM for more shred and the JS for Legato.... I look at Strat's much the same way as the JS.... Better for Legato (especially Tele's), and I believe that's what JOE modeled the JS after.... Keep us posted, and dont forget about the Monkey Grip!! haha, oh, and the JS doesnt have a pickguard, right??.... Picking like Dr VAI on a JS would tear up the body, lol!!....

The Prez - My point was that if it would help Brother al, you should tell Brother al. You don't really need to tell me (especially without even mentioning his name), because I already know (and I had just mentioned that I already know) how to play the song. I said what I said because you directed your post to me instead of him.

aliengtr - I haven't listened to Joe's comments yet, so I don't know what he said exactly... Here's what I do know (sorry if some of this is repeated info).

Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony from Van Halen teamed up with Neil Schon and Dean Castronovo from Journey to from a supergroup, Planet Us. They recorded a few songs (1 or 2 or 3, I think), with the intention of some (all?) of them being used in the first Spiderman movie (I think...or maybe it was something else). The movie people didn't like the song(s) because they were too heavy. Nothing else happened with Planet Us at that time.

Last year, Sammy Hagar & The Waboritas did a gig on Rockline. Towards the end of that performance, Planet Us (with the addition of Joe Satriani on guitar) played one song, Vertigo. At the time most of us thought it was going to be a one-off thing. I guess there was a possibility for more (at the time), though. Joe wrote Up In Flames for Sammy and Planet Us, but the group never got together to do anything because Sammy decided to get back with Van Halen.

Vertigo is all we have ever heard from Planet Us.

...Austin...

Mikey: I am sure DCK knows more about buckethead than I do, but definitely check out Electric Tears, Colma and Population Override. So far there are the only albums of his that I own. You will love them.

dck: Eddie Van Halen art guitars? They are cool no doubt, but nothing bugs me more than its price. I hate greedy fools.
