Joe's first post on here was -

Tue Jun 8 '99 8:31:00 pm

I'm not sure when the count changed. I think it had to be EOC time. I played the hell out of that cd when it came out. It's still brilliant when I listen to it now.

Austin/Al, Conan O'Brian tweeted that he's on his way to In & Out about 20 minutes ago. lol!

Devil's Slide

Woo, that song and bedtime are NOT a good combo! lol!

Night peeps. Love y'all!

Here are some old satriani.com pages, from the Wayback Machine at archive.org...

1996: home page and an old group picture (is that our webmaster in the lower right?)

1997: home page one and home page two

1998: An early message board page is here...complete with some smart-ass comments from Roo trying to break the site ;-)

1999: The home page with the first reference I see to "Talk To Joe" on the home page, but it may have been there earlier

2000: The site when I started coming to it looked like this...you can see what T2J looked like back then by clicking "View Archive" at the top right of today's site

Here's the archive.org link, if other people want to have fun:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://satriani.com

And about Joe's author_id...my guess would be he was given a new one around the time the EOC site launched (which is when the colored text started), so anyone who has been here since before then will have an ID lower than his.

Where are you guys seeing the updated show listings? I can't find them.

Do the Stu - I am a fan of Kings X. I have some of their stuff on my ipod. In fact I think they might have just come out with something new about a year ago or so. By the way, did you ever get the email I sent you a couple weeks ago?

Well...I've watched 3 different movies in the past 4 days....

Sunday watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" with my mum....she fell asleep cuz it moves a titch slowly...but was an interesting movie. I've often wondered what it would be like to be born old and age "backwards" instead of the set-up we have now...wonder who we talk to bout dat.......

Last night watched "Twilight"....interesting movie and I smell a sequel coming on. Someone was just telling me about these books last week, and I think they said there are 4 of them. Movie was just interesting enough for me to want to read the 4 books, so shall get busy on that soon....

Tonight....I watched "7 Pounds".

Can't stop thinking about it....can't stop crying. Somehow, early on in the movie...I knew what he was going to do for her. I just kept hoping it would go another way. Very good movie.

Please pass the tissues and a new head and face while yer at it....mine's a mess.

That was insanely cool Austin! I vividly recall the 1997 home pages, it got me thinking that I started visiting the site in 1996 as I was looking for G3 info to plan my trip to San Antonio. If some people complain sometimes about the current layout, they would freak out if they saw this!! Thanks for bringing it up!!

Cheese, 7 Pounds is a very good movie, it could've very easily become an all-out "chick flick" but it throws in enough variations to keep everyone hooked. I've actually become a Will Smith fan, really enjoyed Hancock, and I Am Legend was a blast!! Specially since I didn't see any trailers and went in not expecting the monsters and suspense.

I really like the Page aspect of this riff.

Since I quit and came back to T2J at least three times there's no indicators whatsoever. It takes collage math to add up my postings. Which is not easy if you garduated from universally.

The Dalai Lama avoided giving clear answers to good and sharp questions by an audience of 300 students. Which was a bit disappointing. Q: "Why don't you go back to (visit) Tibet now, you will be protected by a media army so what's the danger? They won't hurt or arrest you with the whole world watching." A: "I will go back when the time is right." Still a very nice man who is good at explaining why dialog works better than anger. I shook our mayors' hand several times, today he will shake the DL's hand so that is............ completely irrelevant! LOL. The only significant handshake ever was Joe's left (fretting) hand. Though I can state, in contrast to popular believe, the magic did not transmit. I wish.

Listening (every day) to: Marco Sfogli - CD 'There's hope'
If you like John Petrucci or Andy Timmons you want that CD!!! Sfogli is guitarist voor DT's James LaBrie.

Can't go back to sleep now after watching Devils Slide but thanks anyway Chelle.

Skippy- I woke up and found out we had tour dates!!...but none in St. Louis or Memphis. I have to believe they will be adding some dates to this. I just hope it is in mid November through December. Harvest begins around September 10' and no matter how badly I want to go I just couldn't. I may consider flying out to one of these show. The nearest is Kansas City and Atlanta. Still a long drive. Mid August is usually a little break for me.

Austin- with your diverse taste in music, are you into Steely Dan?

We all have a little different taste in music. that said, Let's take a poll of T2Jers

Given your music likes and dislikes, what are some of the artists or songs you run across on the radio or other media sources that is not in your particular genre of choice that you just have to stop and listen to?

For example: I was into the whole hair metal scene in the 80s but there are a few songs that I come across that take me back and I just have to listen. ie. Der Kommissar, (80s) Lido Shuffle ( 70s Biz Skaggs) heard that one yesterday. And maybe my circle of friends would be shocked to find me listening.

Don't be afraid admit it.

Here's one

Another quick "blast from the past" note...the post counts began with the SBM version of the site (June 2002). So cheese101, your michelle math is way off. ;-)

I think I was the leading poster up until about 1,000 posts or so...I blame the high-speed connection in my dorm room at CSULB. After a while though, people like death cube k and michelle passed me...and then I disappeared for a bit to try to get an education (ha!) and fell farther behind.

cosmic_ape / satchblues - You two are planning on going to the signing on Friday, right? What time do you think you'll be there? I'll probably be there by 3 or 4 (one of the few perks of being temporarily unemployed) and can maybe save a spot in line for you guys, if you'd like. You guys should both have my phone number, but email me if you don't.
Glitz Man - Great job with the half marathon. What was the top time, again?

And I'm sure I'll sound like a jerk here, but there's really only one way to say it...does it bug you that you just barely missed breaking the 90-minute mark? ;-)

burly - I don't really like Steely Dan, but I'll admit I haven't heard anything other than what's on the radio. What I've heard just hasn't grabbed me. What's your favorite album of theirs?

Your question is a good one...here's my latest "guilty pleasure" song:

The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name

I've heard the studio version of the song and can't stand it, but there's something about this particular version from New Year's Eve in New York that is awesome.

Yes, I said that.

Listening to: Boyd Tinsley - True Reflections (current song: Cinnamon Girl [Neil Young cover])

Catching up on the posts. Skippy yeah "There's Only One Way to Rock" great minor pentatonic rock song in F#. and yeas Mikey was quite the flashy guy back then. Great DVD. That is from " Live Without a Net". I first had it on VHS, check it out, it's a good one. And the Panama vid was one I had not seen, thanks.

Satriella- You did fine with those purchases. You have a lot of catching up to do with Clapton. I would hate to think of life without his music. Do catch him live if you can, you won't be sorry.

Pip- I hope to be able to sit down and watch an entire race in real time soon. I am usually a fanatic and have to be glued to the TV or listen on satellite radio, but the DVR has sort of relaxed me. The tractor I was driving does not have the satellite radio in it. I swapped with my helper and felt bad about swapping out the receiver because the air conditioning was on the blink with that one, and I would have felt badly about pulling that luxury too.

Do they have satellite radio in other countries? I know Canada and Mexico but what about you from across the big water?

Austin- not really a big Steely Dan fan but do like some of their material. Never bought an album but do like some of the songs

And hey I didn't swap tractors with him because of the a/c. Just so I won't look like a jerk. The air ride seat in the one I was driving would not air up so it was a fair trade :-)

Austin/Burly, ffs, how could NONE of the memorable solos in Steely Dan's work over the years have never grabbed you???? The work, particularly Larry Carlton's (here are two of his best 'Dan solos Kid Charlemagne and Don't Take Me Alive (1:40 - 3:50) has always had that soaring vocal line melody to it and I am betting Joe is a big fan of Larry's stuff.....

Thanks for the Larry Carlton post. Rock 103 out of Memphis used to play a lot of the deeper tracks from their albums, back when radio had balls to play something that's not on a list.
