Sending Old Men To War

(received from an older person)

If I could, I'd enlist today and help my country track down those responsible for killing thousands of innocent people in New York City and Washington DC.

But! , I'm over 50 now and the Armed Forces say I'm too old to track down terrorists.

You can't be older than 35 to join the military.

They've got the whole thing backwards. Instead of sending 18-year-olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys.

You shouldn't be able to join until you're at least 35.

For starters:

Researchers say 18-year- olds think about sex every 10 seconds.

Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more that 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. If we can't kill the enemy we'll complain them into submission.

"My back hurts!" "I'm hungry!" "Where's the remote control?"

An 18-year-old hasn't had a legal beer yet and you shouldn't go to war until you're at least old enough to legally drink. An average old guy, on the other hand, has consumed 126,000 gallons of beer by the time he's 35 and a jaunt through the desert heat with a backpack and M-60 would do wonders for the old beer belly.

An 18-year-old doesn't like to get up before 10 a.m.

Old guys get up early every morning to pee.

If old guys are captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd probably forget where we put them.

In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real inteaser.

Boot camp would actually be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we actually like soft food. We've also developed a deep appreciation for guns and rifles.

We like them almost better than naps.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and I didn! 't see a single 20-foot wall wi th rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

I can hear the Drill Sergeant now, "Get down and give me...er...one ."

And the running part is kind of a waste of energy. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him.

He's still learning to shave, to actually carry on a conversation, and to wear pants without the top of his butt crack showing and his boxer shorts sticking out.

He's still hasn't figured out that a pierced tongue catches food particles, and that a 400-watt speaker in the back seat of a Honda Accord can rupture an eardrum.

All great reasons to keep our sons at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off to possible death.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten cowards who attacked our hearts on September 11. The last thing the enemy would want to see right now is a couple of million old farts with attitudes.

DoTheStu:- "Yeah, Joe usually uses one of Steve's guitars when he jams with Deep Purple. However, when he jammed with DP on 9/4/04 in Los Angeles, he used his aluminum guitar (the Chrome Boy replacement)."-

That must be so because Joe was on same tour with his own equipment. Right?

Mikey: Happy belated b-day, man!!! I haven't been around for a while -> how are you doing? ...I hope well. I'll sure check out that "Crossroads" -dvd!

So, it was the Veteran's day in the U.S. of A. (that explains a lot of the recent messages on this board): The Finnish Air Force salutes every soldier, that has given their efforts to serve and protect their own country!!!

...I hope the government of the U.S. of A. makes the right decisions in the future, about what is your consern ...and what isn't!
...'cause like I've said (quoted) earlier (actually some old American general has said in the past): "No one hates war more than a soldier, for only he knows what it really can be."

Edits: I'm pretty drunk; misss spellingg...

pp0 - You can buy the T2J CD at http://www.talk2joe.com/.

Joe has released the following DVDs:

- The Satch Tapes
- G3 - Live In Concert
- Live In San Francisco
- G3 Live - In Denver

Reel Satriani is not available on DVD.

I have a few Satch audio bootlegs, but I don't really have any on video.

Thanks, but I'm not the second-biggest fan by any means. There are people here who have seen Joe more than you and I combined (although I'm not saying the person who has seen Joe the most is the biggest fan).

I play bass guitar. I have a low-end (but very cool) Washburn and a Fender Stu Hamm Urge II. I don't have many effects because I'm not in a band and I don't play live. I have a Boss CEB and a Korg PX3B, and I'm looking into buying a bass wah (either a Dunlop or a Morley).

Joe's current live setup is fairly simple. Now that he's using the Peavey JSX, he doesn't use some of the pedals he used to use. He gets his distortion from his amp. He uses a DIgiTech whammy pedal, a Dunlop Crybaby wah, and a Fulltone Ultimate Octave, among other things.

Noppa - "That must be, because Joe was on same tour with his own equipment. Right?"

LOL...I reread my comment and realized how stupid it could have sounded... ;-) To answer your question... Yes...and no. Joe used his own guitar, but not his own amp / effects.

When Joe would jam with Deep Purple in the past, he would usually use one of Steve's guitars and half of Steve's rig (Steve runs stuff through two separate amps, and switches back and forth between them live...when he is playing with Joe, both setups are being used at the same time).

If Joe is not on tour (and he usually isn't when he's jamming with Deep Purple), it makes no sense for him to drag his own amps and pedals out on stage. These jams are planned ahead of time (In some form, at least, even if it's just a quick "Hey, Joe...come see our gig this weekend and we'll jam."), so it wouldn't be all that difficult for Joe to bring one of his guitars. In the past, he just hasn't done that. I don't know why that is. When other guitarists jam with bands, they bring their own stuff...

This most recent time, Joe was on tour and obviously had his own equipment on the road with him. However, he still played through half of Steve's rig (just as he has done in the past). Joe used one of his own guitars this time, I guess because they were right there.

Joe is weird. ;-)

...Austin...
