I received your email. I agree, the finished product is even better. Bring it to the show - if you get back stage, maybe Joe will autograph it for you

ZM - i actually did the painting for Joe :) i thought it would be a good souvenier of his trip to Perth :D

even if i don't get an aftershow pass - i'm going to try to pass the painting up to the stage, i've bought a poster tube for it.

hi bahduh!

MariMarSRV: Joe must have been a good man in his previous lives.

I am listening to LISF now and always with me always w/ you is playing. man, that song still gives me shivers because it takes me back to G303 in minneapolis with those red and white lights going dancing slow while Joe played awyawm in a very calm fashion. the only thing that bugged the living crap out of me was that there was this couple next to me holding hands and rubbing each others things and shit....grrrrrr.

Hi, everyone... :-)

Sorry for being away for so long. You can consider me back for good as of right now. I'll catch up with nearly three months of old posts over the weekend...hehe.

I will be attending both the Anaheim show on 4/7 and the Ventura show on 4/8. Thanks go to Tracie (cheese101) for talking me into going to the Ventura show. It'll be a bit of a drive for me, but it will be awesome.

I checked out the new news item...the interview contest sounds cool. I'll enter sometime this weekend.

Also, before I go... I owe an apology to bahduh, Steven Wilde, and a few other people on this site for not responding to their emails in a timely manner. I read and saved every one of them, though. I'll respond to you guys personally as soon as I can, okay?

Thanks, everyone... It's good to be back. :-)

EDIT - 9,295 posts to go...

...Austin...

It's Those Sympathetic Vibrations Again (like feed back). Sympathetic Illness?

When my wife was pregnant with my daughter, I got morning sickness sometimes....

When I was 14 or 15, I picked up the phone to call my best friend. No dial tone, but I could hear music. I said, "hello" and my best friend's voice comes over the handset. "Did you call me?", he asked. I said, "no, did you call me?" He did not. We just picked up the phone at the same time. The phone company must have figured we need a direct line because we were always on the phone (tongue in cheek joke). He lived across town (5 miles or so). Very strange. Never happened again. But, I have picked up the phone to call someone and happened to get it before the ring when someone else called me.

anyone!!!

I need help with a very technical problem.

RFI from AM broadcast Towers only 1500 feet away. I can't record with that. After talking with some experts that I know I may not be able to get rid of it no matter how many toroids and other filtering methods I use.

Has anyone had this problem and was able get over this obstacle?

I measure 1.3 Volts AC in mid air at the frequency of the station. There is also either some clocking devices or coded digital AM being broadcast, chirping different tones and noises.

To give you an idea how loud it gets, my rig with minimal distortion and other effect levels has the radio blasting out of it nearly the same level as the guitar. It happens even louder when I turn my vol knob on the JS 1000 to off.

Well thats my story, I am disappointed that I am this close to the deadline for Music submits and I have this to overcome first. Till now I was laying all the tracks via midi and synth in Reason, Pro Audio 9, and Cubase SE internal to the system.

Since I have to go live to put my guitar work down I am stuck in a AM RFI rut. I may not be able to make the deadline now.

:(

aussieRGman - If you have the trem bar that just pushes in there should be some plastic grommets on the part that goes into the trem assembly. If your bar is falling out these are worn and need to be replaced. There are a few different sizes also so that you can find a size that makes the bar do what you want. Some like it to be stationary or some , like me, like it to move around, with out coming out. Good luck.

Figure out what frequency the station is on. Make sure all wires are NOT at a resonant wavelength. Read on, then make sure cables lengths are not a multiple of the wavelength. (300 million divided by 1,340,000 +223.88 Meters. 1 meter = 3.2808399 foot (or 1 foot = 12/39.37 meter) just get close to accurate. I say 1 meter = 3 feet for this task.

To convert any frequency to a wavelength, divide the speed of light by it.

(some info from http://www.zyra.org.uk/freqwav.htm metric measurements)

Speed of Light

The speed of light is 299,792,458 metres per second. Or approximately 300 million metres per second, or 186 thousand miles per second, or 1 foot per nanosecond. The speed of light, sometimes known as "C" (as in E=MC2), is a constant of the Universe. However you measure it, it really is 299,792,458 metres per second precisely, or about 186,282.4 miles per second.

wavelength = 299792458 divided by frequency

To make it easier, it's possible to approximate the speed of light to 300 million. Also, wavelengths are always measured in metres in this formula, and frequencies are in Hertz. 1KHz (kilohertz) is a thousand hertz; 1MHz (megahertz) is a million hertz.

Example: What's the wavelength of Radio1 FM 97-99 megahertz?

99 megahertz is 99 million hertz, so to get the wavelength, it's...

wavelength = 300 million divided by 99 million

= slightly more than 3 metres. (wavelength = 3 meters or 9 feet) 1/4 of that is about 2 feet, the average lngth of an FM radio antenna is 27 inches.

Another example: What's the frequency of BBC Radio4 long wave 1500 metres?

Ok, it's frequency = 300 million divided by 1500 = about 200,000 = 200 kilohertz

(The station is now on 198 kilohertz)

Example: 1340 AM station.

300 million divided by 1,340,000 = 223 meters (+/-), or 669 feet.

10 ft speaker cable is at the 66th harmonic.

I am sorry for the overly technical answer. Like you said, you are way to close to the transmitter!!!

the best antenna is alway 1/4 wavelength or 1/2 wavelength or even 1 whole wavelength. As close as you are, the only thing I could think of is make sure all equipment is grounded, and if you could put a metal screen around the amp (ground the screen to earth ground by a wire going to a ground rod in the dirt) shielding is paramount in a close proximity to strong RF (radio frequency) fields.

Use the best connectors on your cables, and maybe get a .001 ( or close) capacitor soldered across your input jack of the amp, and output jack of your guitar.

Try wrapping the amp in alluminum foil, then run a jumper-cable from the foil to an allready grounded metal object (water pipe, etc) to see if that reduces the interference.

More ideas later. I need to think about this....

Maybe more ideas tommorow after 9am Pacific time (10 AM Mountain), I get back home from taking the kids to school around 9 am my time.
