#?@! yourself is, indeed, a genius song! hehehe, it's real good.
FIABD gets my vote.
Greg M, thanks for that explanation of chops! I guess Vai has a few chops to share. hmmmm, technically challenging - Igor Belsky probably does too.
Olly, all I can suggest is that you practice your 5-beat timing wqith pentatonics, since they use 5 notes per scale. it's the easiest way to do it.
Templar, pinch harmonics are the ones you play by brushing the string with the side of your thumb after you hit it with the pick. they are different depending on where you play them, so no, they are not restricted to just the middle pickup area. it's all about tone.

Ovation - lol... that damn rice will get the best of ya!

Intro songs? Hmm... Flying starts off awesome, no doubt about that... But I'm thinking a good opener would be something that breaks out, a la Satch Boogie. Also what Matt said, how Joe does the intro for Summer Song... but that tune has to be saved for later...

Geez... my vote goes to Satch Boogie I guess. Not my favorite tune, but it would rock starting off a concert...

I've been wronged!!!

Alright... there's this "community music" program here on campus (it connects through the community, instead of just to UPS students... UPS = University of Puget Sound)

I was asking about upright bass lessons, which eventually fell through anyways, but it came out that they don't have an electric bass instructor at all!
I asked about it, and the person told me if I prepared a resume, I could fill the position (pending certain interview/audition procedures, of course)...

Just gave them a resume, and the lady told me that there currently isn't a position for an electric bass teacher, but they'd keep my resume on file...

I guess that could be good, but I have a few fundamental problems with that conversation:

there is no electric bass teacher, hence the whole applying for the position thing...

"there is currently not a position for an electric bassist"...
shouldn't the fact that there isn't one automatically mean that there is?
e-Bassists, beware. The world is out to get us.

just in case that lady was actually sincere though, and will offer me the job (let's face it, this community needs someone to teach comtemporary electric bass techniques and application), i'll let everyone know if i get the job (and the seattle area folks better stop by for a lesson and gimme some money!)

edit:
wha? post 440?
! lookit me everybody! i'm a tuning note!

michelle - The lyrics are archived in the old T2J. I'll find them when I'm done here and put them in another post.

Fretslayer - Have you listened to EOC on headphones recently? That's always fun.

ovation - haha... road runner... lmao.. escaping VBIL will take quite some effort and a pile of gile... lol..

with Simon Phillips I always think of Party in Simons Pants..
such an exciting track..

So I'm in Rotterdam... it's midnight.. I'm well fed.. had 6 or 7 beers too many... I get back to the hotel ready for night cap and the bar is closed... this is Holland... bars never close in Holland... I explain to the night porter that I'll find it very difficult to get wasted if the bar is closed... he's having none of it.. the bar stays closed... I'll consider this hotel as an anomoly to standard Dutch drinking behaviour as I know the Dutch very well and they are good people.. so I will not hold this incident against the nation as a whole....

drummers that live beyond the confines of 4/4 but can seriously groove... Alan White [Yes], Bill Bruford [Yes / King Crimson], Rik van der Linden [Trace], the geezer in PFM, and believe it or not.... Phil Colins in the early 70's Genesis stuff is superb.... Omar Hakim is mental

r6r - you beat me to it on the last 2....

'com guys... you must have missed a few....

I Believe (In Ice Cream)

Shudda been out walkin', for hours
Got something on my thighs.
How did it get here? Where's it going?
Why does it look like lard?
Health food is boring...eat that tofu *gasp*
Weight's at a crazy pace.
Got to hold on to my whip cream. There's just no other taste.
There's just no other taste.

I Believe...we can exchange anything.
I Believe...we can dress to cover it.
I Believe...there's a seasoning for everything.
I Believe in ice cream.

I've seen the saddles, and the giving.
The seams rip and they break away.
And I keep searching for the right size: tomorrow's a-nother day.
There's a kitchen I like to cook in.
A kitchen is a beautiful space.
And I see something in my pies, sends me to a frenzied race.
To put the pie in my face...I Believe...In ice cream :)

DO THE STU - The Flex-Able album is very strange, but the leftovers is amazing. STEVE VAI is unique :). The man is so deep and creative. He is a gift from the nature :-). By the way, thanks for the lyric of I BELIVE IN ICE CREAM eheheheh. Very cool.

GREG M - I don`t have that album, but i will try to buy that. Thanks man :-)

Jow, I am brazilian, and I watched your show here last June. Your are incredible, not as just a guitar player, but as a musician. It's just perfect. I wish to know the specifications of your Chrome Boy, like the kind of material, the acessories on it, I am very interesting on buying a guitar that could be similar to yours. Thanks, and congratulations, you are my inspiration!

greg m: It's (the big pile of cash) is at the guitar shop now lol. That was about 4 years ago when I bought it I guess, maybe 3. Not sure, anyway I walk in to check out the guitar room (nothing in there but guitars, no reason at all to go in there, I should have known better) and one wall is nothing but guitars, about 40 feet long. On the other side of the room are drums and amps and all the small stuff is up front. Anyway, on the amp side of the room there's this Les Paul hiding in a corner. All by it's lonesome. I was talking to the guy about this and that and turned around and said, "Whatcha got over there, man?" and the rest was history.

IbaNick: Cool, now I have a definitive answer, thanks.

Clarky: Some people can be so damn anti-helpful can't they?

Austin: Thanks for finding that, it's been too long since I read it lol Michelle for G3!

Fusion5000: I'll check out your new tune later, can't right now, but it sure as hell sounds interesting lol

Edit: Difinitive? What the hell am I on? Did wolf2 put something in my drink?
