Joe,
from about 1993 onwards I started to listen to yours and Steve Vai's music whilst at the same time starting to learn to play guitar myself, just like you did when you first heard Hendrix. As I've worked my way through buying your music over the years I can see alot of changes in the way you write your songs. I think your playing is getting too fast in some ways. Alot of the material on earlier albums I hear more melodically and than for example your latest release. I'm not critisizing your music, I would never dream of as you have such a talent. Personally I prefer the slowed songs you have wrote, such as 'New Blues', 'Love Thing'. I think there is a tendancy these days to get too crazy on the guitar, and forget that melody/soul matters just as much as speed/technique
Sorry for getting quite deep on things, I just wanted to have a word to the great Joe Satriani!

Congratulation's Nick Lee, sounds like you had a great performance!! I hope you won!! Satch would be proud...BTW,
as you may know, there has not been anyone from the Great White North that has caused a rucus down in the U.S. since Rick Emmit and Alex Lifeson (that I know of)....Are you ready to stir it up...lol!!
Phrygian Dominant: I haven't heard a hide or hare about Fire Strings either!! Cept' what was in Young Guitar last month....
All that hype and only a short one page article :-(
With that in mind, Mr. VAI's "Brandos Costumes" sounds like a great song of the day!! Listen to it...Really concentrate on the chords and tell me it doesn't take you to another place!! :-)
Peace all, /\/\ike

Can anyone tell me the difference between a single locking tremolo and a double locking tremolo? which one is better? Also, what's a synchronized trem? Is lo-pro edge better or edge better?? thanx

Hey Joe,
I saw you at the AJ last night, and as usual you were great. The sound in that venue is terrible though. I couldn't even hear the vocals of DT. Also, your set was way too short. I wish you would have played some more. Thanks for coming to the BURGH!!!

Congrats Nick on your performance, throwing your pick into the crowd shows everyone "who's the boss"...lol. At our band practice, if we get through a song with no problems and it sounds good, we throw our picks at each other...ha ha
Joe, have fun playing in your old "stomping grounds" tonight :)

Deathcube:I hear ya!:)...I guess all brands have good & bad ones.Just like a car.I used to have an RG Ibanez that was not too great either.Constantly fidgeting with the intonation so I sold it.On the other hand,My Universe has the same body style as the RG.No problems so far.Same thing with Bridges too. Some are flawless & some are not....lol.....:)I gotta say one thing,I have a '78 Strat & a Les Paul Standard that I was constantly replacing the Volume/tone knobs because they get scratchy after a while. The knobs on the Universe are soooooooo smooth & scratch free after 9 years.I am impressed:)............jblaze1

Nick Lee - Sounds awesome. If JS Clone 2 wasn't in Rome, we probably could've driven out. Can't wait to see the video.
Whojack - Well, first you would need a way to hook your camera/vcr up to your computer by means of a deluxe graphics card or TV card (anything with video input) OR... you could give the tape to me and I could do it for you.
Climber - FIRE STRINGS!!

Narface: A double locking trem is found on most Floyd Rose or copy trems. The Single locking is a budget version with only locks the strings at the neck and not on the bridge.
Also, u are so right about Alive in an Ultra world. What a great idea, to write a song for each country u perform in and base it one the countries traditional style and history. Amazing!!!!!!!
JS Clone1: What was that u mensioned about a trem tensioner? did it come with your guitar or can it be fitted at a later point. I like the sound of it....
Song for today: In the End - Linkin Park

Wow! It took me forever to go through pages of posts since I havent been back to check it in a few days.
Now, for another conversation stir up...... what is the FUNNIEST moment you've had while listening or playing Joe's music. Lets get some good ones!
OK, let's see if I can answer everyone that answered me last week.........
DRAFTER37 (Kevin Graham)....Agreed! It is so hard for me to pick a personal favorite too from SBM.... from any satch album. Each time I pick a favorite, I listen to them all again and it all sounds even better and a new favorite comes to mind, so picking just one is impossible. It is fun to try though.
GETALOAF...... You have passion in your "New Last Jam" comment. I like that!
NONSMOKER..... Holy mini!!! I like that new phrase! Nice to meet you on the chat. Boy, Im glad to get that java stuff sorted out! see you soon.
MASTERDRUMMER1.......Instrumental music rocks! I am a die hard fan for CRYSTAL PLANET too.... I just can never get enough of "TIME, SECRET PRAYER and LIGHTS OF HEAVEN". Yep.... drummers never stop! thank goodness.
OVATION........ "EOC goes great with cyclone conditions"!!!! I bet! That's funny! I hope you are ok. Tell us about the cyclone. You havent lost power or anything? Hope you have the battery back up for your boom box!
MILKER......Congrats for your son's recent achievements! Im proud. Thanks for sharing.
WHOJACKAFIBBY..... You sound like you are quite funny!
MASTERYODA.....yes, I believe in a better place for peaceful souls. Hold on to those thoughts.
SHARON, sounds as if you are at peace with your Gran from your dream. Did your dream come as she passed? That is very interesting. I hope you and YODA have peace in your soul for your Grans today and that you can keep it in your soul.... especially in times when you get weak for their presence. it is hard to grieve. my heart goes out to you guys.
on another note, let's crank some sunday morning tunes!!
