Hi everyone

Nathan East Rocked last night. Unfortunately I got into major argument with my ex so she didnt come down and I was like, fuck it. I got another friend to come with me. We reached the place around 7:00 and the performance and clinic started around 7:15. It was a very small venue with around 50 people attending and I was up close. The view was sweet. We could see Nathan talking to various sponsors of the event (Music Center and Yamaha guitars).

He finally walks up on stage and starts talking. He told that his main goal in playing is not to be flashy but to "flow with the groove." When he plays bass, he's trying to not stick out but disappear into the music as well as have a presence. He started off playing a six string yamaha and played this little solo thing. I wasnt too impressed because the bass was too loud. duh, its a bass guitar but the sound guy sucked. Nathan then told us he was a bit nervous because this is such an intimate crowd as compared to the quarter million crowds he plays sometimes. He did look a litle nervous, but nothing which a few beers couldnt fix. After that he played some tunes with backing tracks. Then we asked him questions for around half hour. I asked him about his work with Satriani and he said that he usually rejects offers that make him play too flashy but this was one offer he couldnt resist. He called Joe, Vai, Brian may and similar "Racer car guitarists" lol He said he first met Satch in Spain for the concert with Vai, May and else. Once he got his 5 string bass, he became more comfortable. He played some beats on his computer and improvised to it and man, it was fucking sick! He was so into that his eyes were closed and just kept on playing some pretty sick chops and just blew everyone away. Then there was the raffle draw thing where I didnt win shit :(

Then Nathan went down for signings and pictures and I got some a pretty huge yamaha poster and glossy signed by him! I am so happy that my ex didnt come!

It was a great night packed with goodies for us.

michelle: your welcome! email me where to send it!

alexandre: will check my email dude.

tune, bahduh, estrela, cheese, suzie and everyone . thanks and have a good day!

Hi again!

estrela, olá! After four days hibernating at home :-( now I feel as if I've come to life again :-) but it hasn't been bad at all, I've lost 2 kilos! (almost 4 pounds). Congrats on your new job! it doesn't surprised me very much hehe, such an energetic and vital person like you deserves it, I wish you a lot of success :-)

tune, ¡hola! due to I'm doing a language course (four hours a week) it's not an effort for me to help you with any queries you may have about Spanish, I'm very into all the linguistic stuff, so feel free to ask :-) About everyone is an artist...the art of living...I would point out that everyone could be an "artist" in the sense of doing something with extreme perfection :-) I've already heard that "blonde joke" but it's cool to hear it again haha.

Artanis I, did you know that the most difficult English word to pronounce for Spanish speakers (or at least for me) it's the word "temperature" , for us is something like "tempricha" lol

Steven Wilde, hi Steven! I've been reading each and every of your beautiful messages, Steven you are so nice and incredible! I'm looking forward to your new solo project, thanks for the offer to join but I play so little...I really enjoy the Morning Light CD, keep on rocking and all the best for you :-)

bahduh, hi, how are you? I hope you can win the aftershow passes, don't forget to put your name in the list :-) I'll reply your mail tomorrow for sure :-) And happy 400 posts!

alexandrecaetano, Alexandre, so cool you were in Spain, hope you feel a lot better of the ache, see you

962, I have the Mourning Widows CD "Furnished Souls For Rent" at last! It's a total surprise, Nuno has change his style of music but not his style of playing, those funky grooves of Extreme are here, Monkey Paw and 667 are total funky metal! I like the guitar work a lot, very powerful. My favourite track at the moment is "Furnished Souls For Rent" quite enigmatic title by the way.

AngieRead, thank you very much for the e-cards, what a nice a gesture, I appreciate it :-)

roo, "How funny was it to see Joe stride up for the super-killa-fragalistic-expert-guitar-lick and instantly see 5 or 6 mobile phones get held up to record it! LOL! That would look so funny on time-lapse photography!"

One of the funniest things I've ever heard about a Joe Satriani concert lol

aussie_dave & aussieRGman, I have a Tommy Emmanuel album "The Journey" it's fantastic "If Your Heart Tells You To" and "Somethin's Goin' On" are my favorites.

Guitarmeister, some Vai thingies for you:

I am also ticked off at the MN high school shooting. Seriously, what did he gain out of it all? Satisfaction? fuck that.

VFR, thanks for your thoughts and insight amigo! Also, PhryDom! I knew I got it wrong! haha.

Good to hear the DVD arrived....I love the way Nuno's set starts, his sound is fantastic. And when he plays harmony on Viking Kong on Paul's set! Awesome! Keep rocking dude, enjoy the DVD :-)

Yoda, "What are you talking about? Of course we have culture in England. It's binge drinking, underage pregnancy, curry nights, and football hooliganism!!!! lmao "....and there, in one short sentence, you've summarised what took me far, far too long to try and exlain! haha. Cheers dude! And all joking aside, you're absolutely right!
civgeek, I can understand you saying the US has no culture, but in my experience it does have something.....Admittedly, it doesn't have much of a culture, but at least you guys still have unity. If the chips are down, you are capable to think and to debate as a nation, and that, in some way, brings you together forging a kind of culture/national identity.

We don't really have unity here. We are mostly apathetic about things that matter (like voting), and when the chips are down, we say "well I'm not getting involved. Why should I?" and we channel all our efforts into "looking out for number one". All that seems to matter is accumulating idle crap to surround ourselves with, showing off the idle crap that we accumulate, and looking after our idle crap to make sure those who covet it can't get their dirty hands on it. More idle crap = more status. A 32 inch plasma screen TV with DVD burner, DAB Radio, Digital sattelite TV reciever, and 7.1 channel surround is way, way more important than having a friendly neighbour who you can rely on in a crisis! Aparrently! This is the sort of thing I'm thinking of.....in my experience, you guys in the US still actually take time to go see your friends just for the sake of seeing each other....each social meeting isn't structured around showing off your newest additions to the idle crap inventory!

Sorry....that was way more than needed to be said! haha, I'm sure I'll be done ranting soon! :-)

Also, I agree intirely with your views on euthanasia and people's "rights".

Clarky, I have also travelled to some interesting places. I think it was a family trip to Tunisia that realy put things in perspective. We'll have to agree to differ! hehe. sorry dude!
SupaaDave, my bad, it was Phrydom!
PhryDom, if you don't mind me asking, how did you land the permit to move into the US? As I understand it, you have to either be marrying a US citizen, or you have to be doing a really useful job that would benefit the community you want to move into?

If you can shed some ligt for me I'd appreciate it, cause I'm seriously doing some very advanced research on my options for the future!

Steven Wilde, yeah I can't believe BAR dispatched David Richards, he was cool. He always gave really insightful interviews too, nice guy. I'd love to see Montoya win the season, and I'd love to see Toyota do well in the constructors championship....yes we do think a lot the same on the F1 thing! take it easy bro, have a cool day!
Delfino, hmmm, I see where you're coming from with that, but then again, an Assie G3 tour should work out nicely with Frank Gambale?
Lucy Sorets, yay! Excellent to hear that Furnished Souls' arrived! Yeah, MW is a total surprise. To me it does sound like there's some Extreme influences in there, but it's all been modernised to take out the undeniable 80's hair metal vibe.

I love all the tracks on there, though I think "War Paint" may be my current favourite! I can thoroughly recommend, at some stage, getting the self-titled album.....although expensive, it is an absolute masterpiece. Did you say you do have Schizophonic? I got that after getting both MW albums, and hearing it helped put MW into context.

I'm glad you're enjoying it....My work here is done! haha.

Thanks anyone who tried helping me out, still not at my regular 100%, still a little down, didn't get to listen to any Satch last night or play guitar!?! (and I HAVE to play guitar for a minimum of at least 2 hours a day, always play for longer, I can't go a day without playing guitar, it's terrible sitting in school all day, need to be rockin' out! Playing guitar for hours is just what I do, can't go a day without it, maybe I'll be an upcoming instrumental guitarist sometime soon?!!) I'll have to put up some songs soon, just dropped a band I was in, the others weren't motivated enough and just were more into constant fun and play later. Now I have time to work on new instrumental songs, haven't really worked on any in a while. Not playing guitar for an entire day, right there gives away that I was really down, big time! Came home, ate something, then went to figure out some Satch songs, figured out a train of angels and played it for a while along with the CD, so I made sure I played it right every time. Also played along with a few other songs I already figured out that are on C.P. Getting there, slowly I guess. But, not playing guitar for an entire day is something that never happens with me, still can't believe it today!

LucySorets I've already checked out quite a few reviews on Vai's forum, nobody has really been talking about the aftershow at all, saw a few setlists. I already saw the Vai video from the Guitar World, I bought this months magazine thinking it was last months, I wanted the one with Vai on the cover of it, also included two other guys on the front, Zakk Wylde and someone else, don't remember. Have to order last months still. The Vai video is cool, I watched it a few times aleady. Didn't notice someone here put a link to it, but saw it before anyway. Thanks anyway.

aussieRGman Pretty sure Satch either uses the edge of his pick or his finger to do his tapping, no finger picks. If you want to know what pedals he uses, watch the 2nd disc from the live in San Fran. DVD, watch the backstage thing, Joe goes through his stuff. He uses various Dunlop wahs -to-Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal -to- Fulltone Ultimate Octave Fuzz pedal -to- Digitech Whammy (original one) -to- Boss Super Chorus -to- 2 or 3 delay pedals (stagggers his delays). Go to this site, make sure you search in "artist", not "gear" or whatever the other thing is, don't remember, in the "search" thing, put in Joe Satriani, there you will find Joe's settup, guitars, amps, strings, picks, effects... www.guitargeek.com

---Cool to see Joe post again. Isn't the 3rd guitarist going to be Petrucci?
