Pearl Jam the Best ????

Pearl Jam was named the greatest American rock band of all time in an informal poll conducted by USA Today music columnist Whitney Matheson. Matheson asked readers in her June 28th column to send her their choices, suggesting that influence, popularity, the group's live abilities, musicianship and longevity all count as factors. The writer posted the results in a new column late Tuesday night (July 5th), which can be found at usatoday.com.

According to comments from Matheson's readers, Pearl Jam came out on top because the band is "still making great, vital music," has "never compromised their integrity," keeps its ticket prices low, and has not been "hyped to death by the media."

Pearl Jam will play two shows at the Borgata hotel and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on September 30th and October 1st. These will be the band's first U.S. gigs since last fall's Vote For Change tour.

The complete list of the top 20 greatest American rock bands, according to USA Today readers, is:

1. Pearl Jam

2. Aerosmith

3. Van Halen

4. The Eagles

5. Journey

6. Guns N' Roses

7. The Grateful Dead

8. Queensrÿche

9. The Doors

10. R.E.M.

11. The Allman Brothers Band and Fleetwood Mac (tie)

12. Metallica

13. Kiss

14. The Ramones

15. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival (tie)

16. Dave Matthews Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd (tie)

17. The Beach Boys

18. Nirvana

19. The Replacements

20. Bon Jovi

Sex in the Dark

There was this couple that had been married for 20 years.

Every time they made love the husband always insisted on shutting off the light.

Well, after 20 years the wife felt this was ridiculous.

She figured she would break him out of this crazy habit.

So one night, while they were in the middle of a wild, screaming, romantic session, she turned on the lights.

She looked down... and saw her husband was holding a battery-operated pleasure device.. a vibrator!

Soft, wonderful and larger than a real one.

She went completely ballistic.

"You impotent bastard," She screamed at him, "how could you be lying to me all of these years? You better explain yourself!"

The husband looks her straight in the eyes and says calmly: "I'll explain the toy . . . you explain the kids."

"The driver also said how people like this can't claim to be Muslims and that in fact they have no religion, a religious person is a God-fearing person and that no God would respect an act of such violence towards another innocent human being, let alone 700+ others."

Delfino, that's a very smart cab driver. I totally agree. They do it for their own glory. They have no God.

VFR, so glad you're okay. You were the one friend I hadn't heard from, and I kept you in my prayers. I read your post last night, and again this morning, and it brings tears to my eyes. It's all so true. Thanks for sharing it with us here on T2J. Now... I'm going to go call my Mommy. lol!

*lightbulb* - I Just remembered that today is my Grandpop's birthday. He passed 6 yeard ago. He's the old fart that used to dye his white hair green every St Patrick's Day. His favorite saying when we would call him was "I'm sitting here with nothing on but the radio!" Pretty funny concidering he was always sitting on his front porch watching the traffic go by. LOL! Happy Birthday ya ol' blister!

Society is what we make it. We live in a world created by extremes on each side compromising and living together in tension. As a result, we get radicals on each side as well. In this type of system, all people's views have to be respected, whether agreed with or not. Its when we tink we are right, they are wrong, we have all the answers, is when it breaks down and violence, hatred, judgment pours out.

I think its important not to react to the London incident by being like these people. We shouldn't wish them all dead, but should find a way to live in peaceful tension but having respect for all people. Sounds idealistic, but I feel it is possible. People like Geldoff and Lennon were far from perfect and have\had extreme views at times, thats ok, but they respected all people. When we lose that respect, everyone loses.

I am not angered at all by the attacks, but deeply saddened by them. I am also saddened by some of the comments here that seek vengence. It just perpetuates it all.

I sound like a hippy. I used to be very pro war, judgmental, black and white. Not anymore. Everyone is entitled to opinion and I respect every opinion, and I listen to every opinion. They are all valid.

I just meant to say 'hi' lol Just read all these posts and started typing. Anyway 'hi'.

Zenfish: My eyes are perfectly open.... I just don't see the point in blaming a country for another's problems, just because they may have been involved with your affairs in the past. Hell, both the US and the UK have been involved in the middle East in the past. DOes that mean I, or Clarky or any others should be guilty for that? If I use that logic, most of the West is introuble for imperialism over the last 500 years. Should the US hold terror attacks on the UK for continual meddling in US affairs even after our independance was won (war of 1812 etc)? No, absolutley not, because we recognise this is in the past. Should the world attack parts of France for it's support (or at least refusal to fend off) of Nazi occupation during WWII? NO, of course not, because everyone, including countries and governments has faults in it's past. That's all I'm saying. Should the US be guilty for doing business with countries for a commodity (albeit a controversial commodity) that it needs to fuel it's industries? No...it's just business, but yet we get crap from all sides. I'm sorry if the rest of the world is suffering from penis envy, but that's no reason to constantly blame the US and involve us in evey type of Xfiles type conspiracy to conquer the world. As a US citizen I just get really really sick of it! Sorry for the rant zenfish.

OCPS470, I see both sides of the story here. I get your point of view and, fundamentally, I agree with it. The US can not be blamed for provoking a terrorist attack on the UK. However, the US does use more oil than it should, and does owe more money to the IMF than any other country on the planet, and did go to war on false grounds. but, we didn't have to get involved, it was our choice. Tony chose to stand "shoulder-to-shoulder" with George W, and BP chose to fund the building of a new oil pipeline straight across turkey, to pump oil out to American tankers. The whole thing stinks. Nobody can be blamed though.....unfortunately, the first thing people usually do is look for somebody to blame.

Basically, I agree! haha.

meandmrvai, I can't get enough of EJ! He is by far my favourite guitar player/musician/song-writer/singer. I have been obsessed ever since I heard him on the first G3 album. I then was given Venus Isle for christmas, I think the finest christmas gift I have ever recieved! I bought one of Max Crace's Venus Isle Artwork lithographs a year or two ago......it's stunning, and such a privelage to have.

Bloom is such a pleasure to have, it was really worth waiting for. I pre-ordered mine from musictoday, and unfortunately didn't get the "free poster" like they said, but I'm not bothered. I ordered a Bloom tour shirt today! Like I said, I'm obsessed! haha. I've been working on "Intro Song" (aka 12 To 12 Vibe) from G3 '96 today, it's so much fun. There's some phrases I just don't get though! hehe. Enjoy the album, thanks for being a fellow supporter of Mr Johnson!

Oh, also, if you don't have "Electromagnets", you must get it. Austin (Do The Stu) from this very messageboard nagged me until I bought it and I can't believe I went so long without it. It's EJ's first recording, from 1975. I imported mine off amazon-usa, I think I got it from Caiman, in Florida :-)

Report -- David Lee Roth to replace Howard Stern

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Infinity Broadcasting isn't commenting on an online report penned by a former Howard Stern Show regular that suggests David Lee Roth will be one of the personalities that ultimately replaces the ribald DJ on the airwaves.

Chaunce Hayden, a gossip and celebrity writer for New York/New Jersey entertainment guide SteppinOutMagazine.com, writes that "an Infinity source has confirmed the signing."

In February, the Securities and Exchange Commission reportedly questioned Hayden about possible insider trading of shares in Sirius Satellite Radio. Hayden was in Stern's studio Oct. 6, 2004, the day Stern announced his plans to move to Sirius in January 2006. The news drove up Sirius shares by 16% at the close of that day's trading.

What is certain is that Roth is among many entertainers that Infinity has auditioned on-air since Stern's bombshell announcement last year. Infinity executives have repeatedly made it clear that they are not looking for a singular personality to succeed Stern.

In April, Infinity president of programing Rob Barnett told Billboard Radio Monitor he was working with Roth in Boston at classic rock station WZLX. "The station has kind of turned the town on its ear with cab drivers, waiters and waitresses and employees of Barnes & Noble talking about this amazing guy on the radio," Barnett said. "It's an example of just being able to surprise and entertain your listeners without necessarily giving them the exact same menu every day." In Boston, Stern is heard on Infinity modern rock station WBCN.

The Diamond Dave-as-morning-man idea actually sprung from an Infinity station 3,000 miles away. VP of FM talk Jack Silver put Roth on the air for three hours earlier this year at KLSX Los Angeles, which Silver programs. "We were so taken by that performance that we created a stunt here in Boston to give classic rock listeners the opportunity to hear him all week long," Barnett said in April.

Infinity chairman and CEO Joel Hollander said in February, "One thing you should expect not to happen, is one person to be dropped in to replace (Stern) at 27 radio stations."

While Stern's contract is set to end Dec. 31, 2005, Hayden says that Roth will hit the airwaves in early September. Asked to comment on the Roth rumor, an Infinity spokesperson said, "We are looking at a number of personalities to replace Howard Stern, however there are no imminent announcements at this time."

Roth has two summer concerts on his schedule: July 15 in Sarnia, Ontario, and July 29 in Redding, Calif.
