Basically you set the threshold and any noise below that level is unaffected. Anything over that level is "turned down" to your threshold. Pretty much like an engineer constantly "riding the faders" on a desk. Very useful for stopping digital clipping if you're recording digitally. Often a gate will be combined, so that there's a lower threshold too. This makes all your muted Pantera guitar parts really tidy & tight cos when you're not playing there's no signal at all. Sweet :-)
Aarren I replied. Sorry it's so short, but I've still got sending probs here :-/

Rich, I had a good laugh when I read it in the newsletter. I think it was Joe & Jon's way of letting us know they do read this page, even though they don't always bless us with their colors.
Those of you on the EAST COAST who are asking if Joe is coming here ~ be patient. Dates for us should start rolling in soon. Any minute now.......

Matt - I think so too (Joe's idea, fury statement). Aw, just brilliant.
Guitarcake - I'm gonna work on it. Don't have a digital camera. There are videos though of me playing it.
http://yngvaitriani.tripod.com - Jem7VWH for sale.
oh, and there's going to be so much fury at G3 this year, you're going to have to swear in Swedish and hunt down a Japanese woman.
Michelle - I agree. It'd be even more awesome if Joe came to T2J and laughed and cracked fury jokes like we all do.

I don't think Yngwie will be all that bothered by references to the "focking fury", after all, that incident on the plane happened in 1988, he's a lot more mellow now!
I'm just looking forward to seeing all 3 of them unleash the fury on the same stage, it's gonna be an awesome sight! Wish they'd announce a date in the Detroit area though....

Mr Nick most of my important stuff is about to go into hiding for when the bailiffs visit. Plus I don't have *any* spare money to post it to you. Sorry, but if you don't come & get it you'll just have to wait :-(

Dear Joe,
Just received your news letter and was really excited about the prospect of a new studio album! I think both the G3 compilation and essential 'hits' albums are excellent ideas. I am sure the G3 tour will be amazingly successful - people who have followed your career, such as I, are continually wishing to see you live and I can only envisage that any tour involving steve vai and yngwie malmsteen will be a great spectacle and a lot of fun!
This for me and millions of other people is very good news - thank you!

Dear Joe,
This is Eric 3, and I just want to tell ya' that you are a very cool guitarist. Also, I just wanted to ask you if there will be a chance for G3 to come to Houston, TX soon. By the way will there be another G3 album, if so let me know.

NSPike, amps for between 1 and 2 hundred? if you want to buy new then probably one of the Marshall MG DFX practice amps. failing that, you could get something a little better second hand. maybe another 20 quid, but you could probably get a Line 6 spider in *new* condition for that amount.

greg m: A compressor is used for...er...compressing the guitar signal. That is, the hi and low frequncies are 'packed tighter', ie. compressed, so the sound is more 'full' and to improve sustain.
Here's how Zoom puts it: This effect type attenuates high-level components and boosts low-level signal components, thereby keeping the overall signal level within a certain range. The effect proplongs sustain and makes the sound more uniform.
There.
