ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons will discuss his love of music and his passion for hot rods in the book Billy F. Gibbons: Rock & Roll Gearhead, which will hit shelves Oct. 15. Gibbons writes about everything from his collections of custom-made guitars and automobiles to his time hobnobbing with Jimi Hendrix and Chuck Berry in the 192-page publication, which will feature dozens of photos from his personal collection.

The Rolling Stones as-yet-untitled next album reportedly will include a song called "Neo-Con" that attacks the foreign policy of President George W. Bush. Guitarist Ronnie Wood reportedly has been absent from many recording sessions for the 11-track disc, which is due out in September. The Stones currently are in Toronto rehearsing for their upcoming world tour in support of the CD.

Eminem's Early Retirement?

Has Eminem run out of encores?

The rapper is apparently ready to hang up his mike, at least according to a report Friday in his hometown newpaper, the Detroit Free Press.

Citing sources close to the platinum-selling hip-hop star, the Free Press says the real Slim Shady will play his last concert in Dublin on Sept. 17.

The report also speculates that the rapper's most recent release, Encore, will be his swan song, as he focuses on producing other rap artists.

Paul Rosenberg, Eminem's longtime manager, told the Press no final decision has been made regarding Em's future plans. However, Rosenberg did say that Encore, which topped the charts when released in November, was "certainly the cap on this part of his career." The rapper, known for his arch sense of humor, is pictured giving a final bow on the cover of the album and closes out the set with the track "Curtains Down."

The Weiner clinic was great! We took our seats in the second row. Each seat had a clinic outline "Dave Weiner: The Formula", an Ibanez postcard, and a raffle ticket to win a t-shirt and cd (we didn't win, but I already own the loot :) Dave had a local guy warm up playing a few tunes, then he took the stage. He talked for a few minutes, then played Long Run from his cd Shove The Sun Aside (now available on Favored Nations label). The summary of the clinic was *About Dave, *Dave meets Steve Vai, *gear, *The formula, * Jam (12 bar blues with 3 volunteers from the audience), *The music business, *Q&A, *Outro - Schizo - written by Dave.

I got to ask him a few questions and throw out a few comments, so that was great :) We were actually at the same G3 with KWS show in Philly, and hung out at the busses afterwards. Dave was still just Dave back then, trying to be professional and break into the business. Of course, I was still just Shel then too, so I had no idea this future guitar hero was standing a few feet from me. lol! Actually, Dave had no idea he would actually wind up IN Steve's band at that time. I asked him who is favorite third G was in G3 - John Petrucci. He said John loves to teach, and never puts his guitar down...ever. lol! I asked him if he had John's new album. He does - killer :) I asked him if he liked doing the whole G3 gig. He said it was an easy night, and in and out thing. Play for an hour and yer done, but it's cool. He prefers the Vai shows though because he gets to play more.

continued...

Weiner clinic part II - lmao!

He said it's very hard to learn Steve's music because Steve phrases things so differently than how Dave has learned. Dave said some of the parts are insane, but, what Steve wants, Steve gets. lol! He said they will play a song over and over and over, for hours if necessary, until everyone gets it right. It has to be tight for the stage show. He said some of the parts are extremely hard - as we all know they are.

He was using his 7 string Ibanez, and a new Ibanez amp which he was saying he really, REALLY liked so that the Ibanez rep in the back of the room could hear him. lol! He was saying how he loves maple necks on his guitars, so all of them were made that way, but with different woods for the body. I hope I got that right. I tried to pay attention for you guys so I could tell you what he was playing. lol! I got no real info there. lol! His gear is on his website if your interested.

He mentioned Joe Satriani a few times, which was cool :) Also Dream Theater, Paul Gilbert, and Enya. LOL! He gets so spent with all the crazy licks he has to play and listen to all the time, that when he wants to relax, he reaches for...Enya. lol! Actually, some of the guys from Godsmack say the same thing. They need quiet music for their down time. Personally, I've never had the urge to go as far as Enya. lol! But, I'm not onstage like those guys either.

He waited around afterwards for more Q&A, handshakes, and sigs, which was cool. His mom & dad were there, which is always great to have that support. I had a lil chat with his mummy, and she said it's like a dream come true. They're very proud of their son, and they should be.

So, now everyone can go over to www.daveweiner.com, check out his sound clips, and buy his cd! lol!

So, all in all, the clinic was Weineriffic :)

No Weiner chant though. Bummer :(

Good Morning Satchland ! ! ! How are You guys?

Mari...... Thanks for your post. I'm happy to share great music, it's a special gift that is not meant to be kept to one's self. Music is God's special gift that the more it's shared the better it feels.....just like kindness! All good things in life need to be shared to be truely enjoyed. Kindness, happiness, Love, Joy, Freedom, Music and even just a smile......the list is endless! Life is short..... Live it for the moments that take your breath away!! Talk about poetic justice. That's the best post answer. I mean really. You're one beautiful person. I didn't expect it at all. Thanks again. Joe Bonamassa this Sat. Cindy and I are on the guest list. I'm going to meet him for the first time and present him with my DVD. I'm psyched ! ! ! !

mikesb..... I wasn't aware Joe Bonamassa had an instructional DVD. Spill the beans. What's on it?

michelle...... How are you? The family? How was the weiner fest? That must have been awesome.

mari#2...... I think Bush should of replaced O'Conner with another women also. It's a proven fact or I should say what I've seen all my life is that women are more in touch with there feelings. I'm proud to be a man and never took atvanage of women because...... I talked briefly in a post to michelle( I think) about a womens intuition. I think it's a powerful whatever. I don't know how you women know shit men can't see you just do. After 26 yrs. married to Cindy...I tried fighting this early in our marrage and had a hard time understanding this. I understand this now. The fact remains..... it's built into every women and men should learn to repect this. I think this makes a women perfect for a judge and many other jobs. As far as you being excepted by your dad. I walk in your shoes. I've briefly told you in a private email what was up in my life with my dad. That's why I made damn sure I spent the time and took the time to understand my boys. Cause' SISTER..... No one was going to tell me ..."You're just like your dad" In most cases that would be a good thing...... Thanks for getting my blood pumpin' a little harder then normal. LOL ! ! !

Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! !

Edit.... JulesL..... Welcome to the site. Sorry I don't know about a German tour. Sounds like a wonderful gift though.

Too funny....too funny...i just had the greatest 3 ideas...

1 - pretend to be a contributing member of this place, and accidentally happend to mention (along with my lawyer who is actually me with a different log in name) that i have a cd coming out. then email everyone (cos they love me) telling them it is out and make some money! cool! oh, wait. someone already did that

2 - think and act like i am better than everyone else. then get my only friend to get as many new logins as possible. then we share the login details so we can both cause trouble for no reason other than the fact that some of the people have realised i'm not actually as wonderful as i think i am. oh crap. someone did that already too.

3 - make loads of friends here. then pretend to be sick. then come back like a big miracle. then people will love me even more. oh, someone already did that. shit.

ok. ill try and come up with an original idea next time. sorry for your trouble.

A Smurfin' Movie Deal

Fans of a certain animated tribe of small, blue woodland creatures haven't gotten a lot of love lately: No new TV episodes, no old TV episodes on DVD (outside of a couple of import releases), no real news on a long-rumored movie.

Now, finally, things are looking rather smurfin'.

A 3-D, CGI-animated Smurfs feature film will bow in theaters in 2008, Daily Variety reported Tuesday. The extravaganza from Paramount's Nickelodeon Movies will be the first in a planned trilogy, it said. According to Newsweek, the project has been trying to get off the ground since at least 2003.

Word of the done deal comes a week after DreamWorks and Paramount set a July 4, 2007, release date for The Transformers, another animated TV series due for a big-screen makeover. But while Transformers fandom has thrived, fueled by new series and product, the smaller legions of Smurf faithful have waited.

"Dude, a Smurf movie?" went a message-board post on TheMovieBlog.com last month after Newsweek noted a film was nigh. "That's the smurfing best thing I've heard in smurfing forever."

Like the Transformers, the Smurfs were a phenomenon of the 1980s, unless one lived in Europe, where the characters have been mainstays since 1958, when Belgian artist Pierre Culliford, better known as Peyo, introduced them in the comic pages. The new movie's planned release date supposedly is tied to Smurfdom's upcoming 50th birthday.

Peyo's creations--the aforementioned small, blue woodland creatures who lived in homes shaped like mushrooms, whistled happy tunes, conjugated the word "smurf" in any way they saw fit, and named themselves Ramones-style (Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Grouchy Smurf, etc.)--blew up as big as any Transformer robot in 1981 when The Smurfs debuted on NBC. The Hanna-Barbera-produced series won two Daytime Emmys, moved much merchandise, from Smurf-Berry Crunch cereal to countless figurines, and dominated Saturday morning TV until 1990. A 1983 big-screen adventure, The Smurfs and the Magic Flute, grossed $11 million, per the box-office site The-Numbers.com, even though it was nothing more than a retitled, redubbed version of a 1976 Belgian-produced movie.

There was no word on voice actors for the new film. The Smurfs' family recently lost Gargamel, the bad, and Baby Smurf, the good, in the death of performer Paul Winchell. Don Messick, who voiced Papa Smurf and others, died in 1997. Smurfette, meanwhile, lives. Lucille Bliss, who gave high-pitched voice to the tribe's lone female member, is 76, and still working.
