Ever heard the joke about God being a civil engineer when it came to designing the human body?

MrNick: For a beginner, the first thing is to show them the proper posture for playing: Thumb on the back of the neck, arched fingers, right forarm planted on body of guitar, with strumming hand and arm parrallel to the strings. Show the student the string names, then work on a simple open chord...like Eminor, this will allow the student to try out the chord to attempt to get it to ring clear with no muffled notes, and practice a simple down, up, down, up etc. strumming to learn the mechanics of strumming from the wrist. Usually that's a good first lesson. Actually, from my experience, it's better not to show that student anything flashy, because while it's a nice idea to expand their idea of wht guitar playing can be, you don't want them jumping from point A to point Y, and spoil their foundations. That's why I've always been firmly against teaching kids with single notes before chords. Single note playing requires a leval of dexterity and attention to detail (such as string damping etc) that a beginner doesn't have the patience or experince to execute fully. Learning the chords helps make the movements of both hands feel more confident. I've been teaching now for almost 8 years, so if you've got some real speacific questions about how to do a lesson plan for a student (the big picture: a plan of 3 years or more) or anything else, I'd be happy to give you some advice. believe me, I made my share of mistakes teaching in the beginning, so I'd be happy to help you side step those haha! I hope this helped.

Jazzzy:Siempre Amor translated is Always Love & was written after the death of a female friend,like all things in love,the more y fall into it the more painfull it is & that just kind of spilled out after.I write almost everything,solos included in open tunings.I find by tuning the strings so that i dont understand chord shapes & scale forms i can bypass brain & go straight t heart.Later when i have the note choice down i,ll tune back t standard pitch & see if its feasable t play it in standard 440.

Ah yes the great Dave Gilmour,theres so much emotion in every note he plays.Marooned i agree is a bit like how you mentioned,my favourite album though from PF has t be W.Y.Were Here & the Delicate Sound of Thunder gig in N.Y is just mind-blowing.

Sorry I have not been in for a bit, my Gran has been put into a Hospice because she has terminel Cancer, I have been up a few times but its so hard seening her like that, I am sure many people have been though what I am going though but i hope you all dont have to.

On a brighter note my p.c. came yesterday custom built for recording, So I can start to put down my emotions though my playing.
