Hey, what's up Man? It's so cold and snowing outside in Hungary but inside I am so hot because of your music!

I have never heard as profession artist as you! Last weekend my friend showed me 3G video and I saw it 79 times from that time... I watch it at my work, at home every day, I can't get satisfaction!

I learned to sing for 21 years and my friends are play the drums and guitars. We have to travel 2-3 hours a day to our workplaces by train (from Székesfehérvár to Budapest) and every day we talk about 3G! It's f*cked good!!!

I know you were in Hungary at this year but is ti possible that you gonna come again? Thanks for the music! Cica, Ákos & Pepe from Hungary

Hey Joe, i have two quick question's. Your whammy bar trick where you push the whammy bar down then hit harmonics in front of the treble pickup, my question is what pitch harmonic is it that you hit? sometimes i am able to do it where it produces the same sound and somtimes its totally different, it's a coin toss... and my last question is I live out in Benicia, CA and cannot find a teacher who can help with my technic and scales mainly melodic scales do you know of any Guitar teachers around here close to Benicia, that can help me out?

Thank you, david

TASTEY, "not gettin out and doin the single scene yet....not sure i want to".....I'd be surprised if you did! I know it's different, but since my dad died a few people who don't know my mum (mom) very well have made the mistake of asking if she's going out dating again. She nearly killed them.

Anyway....why'd I share that? haha, I guess just because relationships are like that. And 11 years is a long-ass time to get to know someone, so make sure you take your time getting used to everything that is going to be different! So if you've moved out you've got a new mailing address....I only have your old one at the moment. Would you mind e-mailing your new one? No problem if you'd rather not :-)

Satriella, haha, yeah I sent you the right one! I honestly spent so much time listening to Dream Theater that I completely went off them. The only albums I'll listen to now are Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence and Images And Words. And you're still very welcome, haha, I just think it's great that you're so enthused over it!
Kris Richards, when you say top ten best guitarists I think of it purely in terms of technicality and skill. So;

1.Eric Johnson
2.Steve Vai
3.Andy Timmons
4.Paul Gilbert
5.Nuno Bettencourt
6.Paco De Lucia
7.Frank Gambale
8.John Petrucci
9.Joe Satriani
10.Yngwie Malmsteen

If you're talking in terms of favourite guitarists then it's more like this;

1.Eric Johnson
2.Andy Timmons
3.Joe Satriani
4.Nuno Bettencourt
5.Paul Gilbert
6.Steve Vai
7.Igor Belsky
8.Paco De Lucia
9.Steve Morse (aaaah, he should have been on the first list somewhere)
10.Steve Lukather (bollocks, he should have been on that list too!)

Slansh - I've been doing a fair bit of acoustic recording recently... I have an SM58 at home.. I use it for live BV's, live cab mic'ing etc etc... as a live mic goes it's great... not too sensitive and quite resistant to feedback...
which is exactly the wrong sort of mic for studio recording....
it's not sensitive enough.. you don't get enough signal to tape so the signal to noise ratio is pants...
for acoustic and vocal recording I used a pals "large diaphragm condenser" - an M Audio Solaris.. one of those will set you back around 170 to 180 squid...
obviously these types of mics can range from 50 squid right up to a few grand [for a pukka pro mic]..
for my piss poor requirements.. I found the Solaris to be pretty good..
I'm thinking of getting one myself...
for this mic you'll need the mixing desk to provide phantom power [which mine does so it's easy peasey...].. if your desk don't then you'll need to sling some sort of box 'in-line' with the mic to power it...

I'm sure that you know all this shit already so I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs and all that .. lol..
but I am recommending taking a look at the M Audio Solaris.. and his lower cost lil' bro the M Audio Luna
I hear from studio bodz that those two mics are not exactly the dog nuts [cos you'll pay more that 10 times that for the real top Monty stuff], but they are however pretty serious value for money.... and for us home studio types.. worth a good look...

Clarky - You use the 58 for live setups ? You don't find that it is too dark? I normally use the 57 for guitar and the 58 for vocals just because of the extra darkness of the 58. Especially for my voice range, high and squeeky. But I haven't tried the 58 for the cabinet. The other reason I'm surprised you use the 58 is the omni-directionalness (is that a word?). That the 58 doesn't have as focused a response area as the 57. But then hell if it sounds good , fuck it!!

Hey Joe, I caught you time before last that you were up in Seattle, but missed you last time. Not sure if you would ever consider it, but we would love to have you come play at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Our music hall is fairly new and pretty nice, and is just the right size. Ah, guess I better quit day dreaming.

Take care, Kevin

Zenfish: lol, The melodical rock atttack & tapping & hammering of Vito is absolutely vh.... Very true, and I believe it takes a special person, born of a certain rhythm (as in dancing, etc.), to pull of that kind of stuff correctly.... Ed had it born in him, and his guitar was definatly an extension of his soul.... Few, if any, have that.... SRV was as close to the soul as I've ever seen.... Ahhhh.... The magic of guitar! :-) Oh, and Vito looks like Ed too, haha, lol!!....

BTW, lol on DLR.... Perfect fit for the early /-//\LE/\/.... His vision after Diver Down went downhill IMO.... 1984 was the beginning of the end....

....On that note.... Have you seen Juniors grades?!?!.... Yeah baby..The cradle will ROCK!!....

SteveT- I am blissfully corrupt...

Mikey - hahaa... so for now... your home in the subtropical sunshine neer the fabulous beaches is assured..

jealous as fuck I am.... lol..

Yoda - nice one about the competition... very cool indeed....
Civgeek - I use the 58 because it's a good "all-rounder" and to my ears.. everything sounds fine....
I don't really want to start stocking up on different mic's for different things....
just one for live and one for studio..
my cabs only really need mic'ing when we play somewhere quite big because I move enough air on my own.. and in the situation where the cabs need mic'ing up.. the PA crew use all their own kit.. so in practice.. although I have the 58, I've never really needed to use it live other than for vocals..
yup.. I have to do lead and backing vocals from time to time... sheesh... I hate singing.... my voice sounds like shite..

Carky - Yea I don't like singing any more either. I would just rather play my guitar and be done. Unfortunately, I have a fairly good singing voice and can sing in the upper registers. Because of that I get forced to sing more than I would like. Oh well, the singers get the ladies.

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question. I have been trying to find out what kind of effect(s) is/are used on "Bamboo" to play the lead guitar throughout most of the song. I don't mean the wailing lead guitar at the beginning of the song, but the sound that kicks in at 3:00 into the song. It has a swell kind of effect and an echo feel that sounds eerie and utterly fantastic. I could listen to that song go on for hours. And Joe, if you are there, your last two studio albums have been phenomenal in my opinion. Your playing and your songs just gets better and better all the time. Thanks.

Clarkysan: lol bro, it was a windy 24C today, lol, you'll make it here one of these days, otherwise I need to fly to see you and DC at the Mainland, lol, stay lucky bro....

Zensan: You can definately add Ed and SRV to the genius' list of the 20th Century, and it is great that we can understand and celebrate them in the present!....

....1984 has the jewels, but it signified the end of the ROTH era.... 5150 and on is \//\/\/ /-//\G/\R.... That screwed up Ed's synch, 2 git's, 2 different styles and approaches.... F*ck Sammy....

....Great analogy on Ed vs. Vito, and SRV vs. KWS.... They play on their heroes passion, but cannot find their own.... No advancement, so to speak....

....What the future holds remains to be seen.... We need another big bang for guitar, lol....

....Nite all....
