Hi Joe , guys, just an update , my mum had a mini stroke on sunday night but the wierd thing is, after weeks of just laying in bed doing nothing but breathing , she was sitting up, talking , eating some of her dinner very strange, anyway they said she may go to a home for people with dementia, just depends on the next couple of weeks. very much like a rollercoaster ride my life is at the moment. oh well ..

Hey there Joe!

Long time fan rare poster.... but I have a question. I've been teaching guitar at a music store for about 3 years now and I'm having trouble getting students to break free from evenly divided rhythm groups like, 8th notes and triplets and quarter notes etc etc I've noticed how a lot of great players seem to, really be quite random in their solos/melodies in a rhythmic sense. I know this all adds up to the whole "feeling" thing but my question I'm hoping you could help me out with is:

How do you practice/teach that? The only success I've had with it is moving them into the legato style phrases you play by starting with scales played legato and chromatic patterns but that takes (I'm sure you know) a long time to really develop fluently. I'm hoping to get them out of the boxed in rhythmic realm and onto some good "tasty" phrasing that is all their own, be it bluesy or jazzy or whatever.

I have a few students who would really benefit from this, 3 or so really good ones who I KNOW will do something good with music someday is they stick with it.

Thanks! -Mikey

I thought you were talking about a wind spout that happens all the time around flat low-lying areas over here, and I caught the news late cause I had an early start..4am, lol.... The destruction was unreal, Mother Nature sure can be bad when she wants to be, damn.... And yup, the election results are turning out fine! :-)

Eddie Van Halen's son is the new VH bassist

G4TV is reporting that long-dormant classic rock band Van Halen is planning to tour in summer 2007--but without founding bassist Michael Anthony, and with a lead singer to be determined.

G4 reports that guitarist Eddie Van Halen's spokesperson, Janie Liszewski, has confirmed rumors that Anthony will be replaced in the band lineup by Eddie's 15-year-old son, Wolfgang.

"Yes, I can confirm this story in the respect of Wolfgang being the new bass player for the band and, yes, he has been in the studio with his dad and uncle rehearsing and writing for an upcoming summer 2007 tour," Liszewski told G4's entertainment news show, TheFeed. "Wolfgang most certainly has inherited the Van Halen musical-genius gene. At 15 years of age his knowledge, understanding, skill, and command of multiple instruments is impressive."

Liszewski also confirmed that Anthony is definitely no longer a member of Van Halen. However, when asked whether original singer David Lee Roth will rejoin the the group, she said, "There has been no confirmation that David Lee Roth will be touring this coming summer."

Genesis To Reunite for 2007 European Summer Trek

Genesis have officially announced plans for a reunion tour of Europe that's scheduled to run from a June 11 show in Helsinki, Finland, through a July 14 concert in Rome.

As expected, the band's lineup will feature singer-drummer Phil Collins, guitarist Mike Rutherford and keyboardist Tony Banks.

Two of the group's longtime backing musicians, drummer Chester Thompson and guitarist Daryl Stuermer, also will participate.

In conjunction with the jaunt, 14 of Genesis' albums will be reissued as double-disc sets during 2007 and early 2008.

Hey Joe!! How are ya??

I just wanted to say that I miss the Crystal Planet songs man.. I mean, for me that's your best album! But I rarely see you playing its songs in live performances (except for the Live In San Francisco). Been in the G3 and you didn't play any either.. :( (Of course it was great anyways.) I'm sure everybody would LOVE to see you play songs like Up In The Sky, Lights Of Heaven, Secret Prayer, With Jupiter In Mind and others...

Peace man!!

Does the signal strength from a wireless router to a USB reviever effect the overall connection speed!?

The signal strength, is 75%........ and downstairs directly beside a comp is was 87%

So does it effect the general internet connection when its at that signal or does it matter? its a 54mbps router on a 1mb internet connecton

Im just wonderig cause i could go through the hassle of rewiring the router and pluggin a direct ethernet wire into my comp upstairs... while it sends the signal else where so then i can leave the USB reciever for the comp downstairs which has no ethernet port.

If its not much difference then ill jus leave it though
