Do The Stu Thanks for the help... I didn't really mean I'd go in to purposely 'show off', but that's just what it seems like most of the time I when play anyway, lol. I practice, play, and push myself to figuring new stuff out everyday, if I don't I feel like I'm not progressing on guitar, and I don't like that...Sort of like something Yngwie said, I like to be able to play and be able to impress myself. I'm not an easy one to impress, so I get pretty mad at my own playing if I'm not at a certain level...kinda wierd, but adds to the motivation and dedication to get better and better.

Suzie2000 Almost done with the recording, just waiting on drums and vocals to be added, hopefully that'll be done tomorrow. Once it's all done I'll let everyone know.

Ovation1 The Spaceship One DVD isn't in front of an audience? The video I saw for Scarified was in a studio. It could be from the Spaceship One DVD, I'm not sure, I don't have it yet. That DVD is on my list along with a few other live DVD's.

-Listening to some Vai (like usual), his anthology... Until today, I never really listened to 'Salamanders in the Sun', what an awesome song! Listening to Fire Garden Suite right now, what a song!

I wouldn't miss it if I were you. I just can't guarantee off for Berklee in Fri cause someone else is off......OH F**k. But I want to go to that show REAL bad! It's a 1220 seat SOTA sound system & lighting system as well....it's gonna Roccck!

Satriella: Please post the link to your drawings again if you wouldn't mind...Thanks! Yes, I'm one lucky baby......no tickets please, Sir !!!!

962: I think mental reference points about what colors or vibes different modes elicit is very important. I have several students working on learning scales and soloing (improv) and it's interesting to me that my students will learn what modes they can use, with out putting much thought into the musical "colors" side of things. I'll have to coach them through it saying "what mood do you want to create....what feeling does this chord pattern give you...do you want to sound jazzy, or dark/heavy, spacy etc etc." And then, after you do that you have to coach them on stylistc taste. For example....I'm working on a funk riff that is built off of a Bb min pent scale, and implies a Bbmin chord. Because it's bluesy and funky, Bb Aolian sounds a little to sterile and straight ahead minor, Bb phrygian is stylistically to eastern and wierd over the riff etc. That's an important thing too, I think. Once you have your list of scales( and modes) that are theoretically usuable over a riff, you have to weed out the stylistically inappropriate options, then utilze the remaining options to create various vibes that fit.

OCPS470, precisely, and this allows you to keep the ones that are stylistically mor awkward in reserve, you you could throw in a short phrase of Bb Aeolian or Phrygian to add a certain vibe or tension, but use mainly Dorian, Pentatonic and Blues structures so it doesn't sound too contrived.

This is something that, I find, is very aparrent in Joe's style and Andy Timmons' style, and is sorely lacking in a lot of other players.

alter_ego_of_joe, just don't play for a day or so.....the nasty bits will die and dry up and actually come off (eeewwww gross!) and then get replaced with fresh fingertips!

Sorry, I can't help with any classical suggestions 'cause I don't know much about classical guitar that isn't flamenco!

Any chance of a UK tour that isn't G3??? A short set is just not enough ... please do a solo UK tour ... especially if the support is Eric Johnson ...

:-)

Thanks ...
