Matt - Oh, heh, yeah the rhythm guitar work was quite a change from your normal progression writing. Well, like I said, I was impressed by the phrasing and could feel the melody, which is important when talking about leads.

Forgotten........War
Forgotten is really a long, easy listening song.
War sounds like a battle song in a first person shooting game, or a song you might hear racing someone in a car.
My vote......

aah....I'm away for one day and I get 10 pages of posts to browse though! nevermind.
I know this is dead pedantic, but Ovation 1, "Shut up and play yer guitar" is a Zappa-ism, not a Vai-ism! hehe. It may not matter much, but the Zappa family trust would be glad to see the quote used accurately! lol

McSuperDave: Happy 400!!!!
Simon: Where did you see a vid of Timmon's playing w/ VAI and Gilberto? Timmon's is awesome, I've see a short dvd lesson of his, but IMHO I dont think he'd make Steve or Paul
feel uncomfortable....They can cut heads with anyone....
michelle: You guy's were in the right place at the right time!!..
Sound's like it could have gotten ugly w/o you guy's there!!....
962:....Yeah dude, VAI uses it soo much you'd think he invented it, lol, thank's for the correction and happy 100!!!!
Nite all,

Hi guys
I'm sorry to use this as an advertisment for another artist but as this is a free exchange of music and ideas i thought it was worth a shot. Anyway.....
If there are any Joe fans in the west of england that read this, there is a guy called Neil Brocklebank playing the Queens tap in Swindon, Wiltshire on the 30th October 2003. I urge as many fans as possible to go along, htis guy is awesome.
If you read this Joe i ask that you check this guy out. He is the hottest guitarist in the UK right now and really deserves a break
Thanks guys
P.S. War is a great song
Samples of his music can be downloaded at www.neilbrocklebank.com

OVATION my friend got the timmons video off winmx. it was featuring timmons and guest starred vai and gilbert. Timmons solo's where over the top. Gilbert isn't good anymore. he lost all his chops and his musical talent. and vai didn't really go anywhere but you could tell that both of them felt upstaged. And they where. Timmons was going nuts.
AVARICE thxs for the comments i expec ted it :)

person of the day: The 15 year old I saw yesterday walking round with a big "Pink Floyd, The Wall" thing pinned to the back of his camo jacket. At least some people are proud not to listen to the same stuff as everyone else their age.
Today is Ian Paice's 55th birthday. He's the drummer, and only remaining original member of Deep Purple.
The funny thing is, when I hear The Ultra Zone, I want to say to Steve, "shut up and play yer guitar".
fusion5000 Do you actually use the highest frets on your 29 fret guitar? Do you have one of those wierd tuning/intonation things or else is your intonation a bit annoying at the top end of the neck? Does the action get a bit high up there? Does it sound bad? Would you mind losing those high frets? If you really want high stuff, would you prefer another 29 fret guitar, or just getting a 7 string and stringing it with an extra high string?
the piltdown man Joe doesn't really mind people bootleging, as long as they don't make too much money out of it (or so I'm told).

Ok Gang... there seems to be an ongoing debate about how a guitar player should sound...
#1 - You should definetly try to find your own tones so that you may be able to develep your own style & sound...
#2 - Don't be affraid if you sound like another player or your idol... this way I think people can quickly pick up as you play, who your influences are or were... This way people can easily relate to what you are playing...
#3 - If you do sound like a player, maybe take on another influence or two and adopt some of those other players' strong points and add it to your own style, then combine the 2 or 3 or 4(whatever the case maybe) ... this way it adds versatility to your playing and then this way people will have even more respect... there's lots of different styles out there other than shred metal and hard rock... try the different styles of Blues out there... Country Chicken Pickin... Fingerstyle, Jazz...
#4 - Write different compositions in the many different styles out there on how to play the guitar... this way people will never get boored listening to your stuff...
Just a point of view gang... but I have faith it's logical!!!
Peace... Barrie!!

Clarky = Avarice? ? ?
Will there no end to this bull shit? ? ? ? ?
Phryg - at least I know who I am.... this is all getting a little tedious...
Nick - I'll see what I can do.. This is really not an easy time for me right now... David Cross has just asked me to sort some guitars out... and I'm about to start recording my own album in anger.... wooohoo...
Fussion - thanx, I'm glad you like my playing.... the recordings on the IUMA site are very very crudely recorded...
mini-diskman(backing track)-->Zoom 9002-->mini-diskman(recording)
so no mics...
Our Blood [my T2J track] was recorded on my Yamaha AW16G.. the guitars are Digitech 2120 direct into the mixing desk....
when I make backing tracks I use Cubase VST (as a sequencer only) and the sounds are generated by a Korg Triton...
If you need a good all-round mic take a look at a Sure SM57

fussion5000: If you want to mic up the amp, go with an SM57(SHURE) if you want a bigger fatter sound I highly reccommend the AKG C1000S it's very fat condenser mic it can't handle super loud spl's, but it's awesome. As an accoustic mic it's amazing! Go with the Alesis sr16 for a drum machine, it's easy to program, and his the best compromize between sounding organic and electronic. I would suggest however that you look at the HK red box pro. With this you can record direct into your mixer/computer/etc and have more control over your mix. Also, it will allow you to crank the amp wit out daling with hearing loss haha! Just make sure to run it with a load. BTW your playing is very good, I would just like to hear less chorussing on all of your lead tones...I think it will sound more pure.

Prog X: Holy shit man, long time no see! Come around here a little more often.
PhryDom: You wouldn't believe how spoiled my dog is. I have a room for him that separates my house from the garage that is is "dog house". He has a ceiling fan, a floor fan and a radiator for heat in winter. Not to mention his own swimming pool in the back yard. Every time I cook anything he gets hooked up too. He's a happy dog indeed.
Ovation: I used to work for a machine shop that sharpened the blades for one of the machines at the Early Times distillery. When you get about a mile away from their compound you can smell the most horrid odor. It's truly awful. I don't know how those people that work there can stand it. But it tastes good so I guess you gotta sacrifice.
OME: Thanks man, I'll try to find that cd somewhere, sounds interesting.
Alexandre: No probs man, it's cool. I look forward to hearing it.
Clarky: And all this time I thought you were Steve Vai and now you're Avarice? LOL It's ok, some of us here have faith in ya man.
