The show should start by 8:15 or 8:30 Pacific time (T2J time).

I think the first X-Files movie is better than the second, but they're hard to compare. The show was still on the air when the first one was in theaters, and that one was tied into the show's mythology while the second one is just a standalone.

One of the things that makes the X-Files my favorite TV show is that there was always strong focus on the art of each scene...I liked it for the technical side just as much as the story side. And this new movie is just as strong in both areas.

On to Batmans, Michael Keaton was my favorite until Christian Bale. He's one of my favorite actors, so that's cool...

I saw Velvet Revolver back in February at what ended up being their last U.S. show before Scott Weiland left. It really struck me how professional all of those guys were, and how dedicated they were to putting on a good show. My first thought after that concert was "Man, these guys are GOOD...and I'm so mad at Axl." Even Scott was extremely professional compared to him.

The Simpsons Movie was very fun...I still need to buy that on DVD, actually. Shame on me.

Are you much of a sci-fi fan? Are you familiar with the show Firefly, created by Joss Whedon (of Buffy and Angel fame)...? The show aired for half a season in 2002 before it was cancelled, and they made a movie, Serenity, in 2005. That's an excellent film...

Hey Satch-fans!

Thought folks might be interested to hear that Satch music has been used at the Beijing Olympics! I have been able to catch snippets of a few Satch songs used at a couple of venues in Beijing - caught em on NBC TV broadcasts....Again, they were played at the venue and not broadcast specifically by NBC.

- Starry Night [in the boxing venue, during 8/19/2008 broadcast on Universal HD channel]; - Super Colossal [in the Water Cube swimming venue during the NBC broadcast of the men's 3m springboard final]; - Summer Song [in the beach volleyball venue, during a ladies beach volleyball match].

This brings me to a question: Satch stuff has been a favorite of sports broadcasters for years [CBS, NBC, FOX football, baseball and many other sports broadcasts]. In these cases, the production team uses Satch material as background during highlights or interviews [or whatever].

Does Joe get any royalties at all from these uses?

I am guessing that any songs used in sporting venues during the events themselves don't pay royalties to the original artists. Or do they? If yes, how is this controlled?

re: the network broadcast usage of Satch songs, whether he gets any royalties or not is not the really issue for me [but may be for Joe!]. I simply think it is extremely cool that the audio people for the networks have so many Satch fans working among the production. And this has been the case for many years!

Not sure if your interested in this or not. I have been watching the Olympics on multiple channels and during the run for the Gold in Fencing, Sunday 8/17/08 (USA versus France) right after France won Gold and the USA won Silver right before they cut to the break they were playing one of your songs, I did not 100% catch it and did not have my DVR running, but I think I recognized it as Super Colossal.

Anyway just thought I let you know it was really cool to hear you jammin at the Olympics!

I bought the G3 with Satch, Vai and Johnson about 6 years ago, was the first time I heard some material about Joe. However I didn't pay too much attention to him at the time, during that time I was more a powermetal/numetal fan.

A couple of years later I was kinda getting bored of the powermetal wave and decided to buy "Crystal Planet" and "Flying in a blue dream" as they were on sale :$, I loved them the momment I played the CD in the car, actually the first time I heard "up in the sky" I was totally enchanted is such a happy yet sentimental song, I don't know, still today is one of my favorites.

From that time, I practically listen to one of Joe's albums everyday, since it doesn't matter the feel of each day there's always one song that fits perfectly with the mood. Of course I listen to other guitar players (Morse, Vai, Gilbert, Johnson, Malmsteen) but nothing like Joe, he's my favorite.

About the Rock-Jazz electronics fusion, well I'm not that much into Jazz, just that my guitar teacher calls "Rock-Jazz Fusion" that music style that might sound like rock but you mix things up with some harmonies, scales and modes from jazz music. I try to take that direction adding some electronic elements (beats, atmospheric psycodelic pads, noise, etc).

"Engines of Creation" is a nice album for me, the proposal is quite fresh, and even if not the best work from Joe (IMOH) I think it has the value of beeing something different, kind of a well taken experiment. I don't take it directly as an influence to my writing but like a "display" where I can see some things you could do when trying to put the electric rock guitar over some electronic sequences, as wich could be one of the possible results. I feel my style is more industrial, with heavier/harder riffs and more synths, and noise.

Words can't begin to describe what tonight's Dave Matthews Band show was like. Dave told the crowd Roi had died after the first song, and everything after that seems like one big blur. There was a lot of crying onstage; it was obvious the band was really hurting. But they played a lot of his favorite songs (click here for the setlist) and Dave talked about Roi a lot throughout the night.

They had a white spotlight shining on Roi's side of the stage during their cover of Daniel Lanois' The Maker, a song DMB has played since their early days.

I'll post a bit more later...the show was very emotional and again, it's all a bit of a blur for me right now.

My favorite Roi solo is in What Would You Say from the show I saw at the Hollywood Bowl on 8/28/06. I need to dig through my unorganized bunch of bootlegs, but once I find it I'll share an MP3 so everyone can hear.
