mikesb/Slans...... Here's an article I found on both picking techniques. Alternate VS. Directional Picking It basically says what I was saying. No technique is better than the other it's what feels natural to you. I remember reading an article from Joe. If I remember correctly he didn't care for sitting there learning these techniques and set out to find something different. That's when he discovered the Legato technique. Joe uses this technique flawlessly and has been mention in articles as " The Legato King" So I feel a lot better about this as I thought I was playing wrong for 35yrs.....lol..... Whew ! ! ! ! ! I can't tell you how releived I am.

Have A Great Weekend Everyone ! ! ! ! ! !

Kenico - to my mind, all picking methods - and legato too - have strengths and weaknesses...
the other killer consideration is also their effects to the timbre..
I do a bit of everything.. in some cases, nothing more than "whatever it takes to nail the lick", and in other cases I'll opt for a specific method due to it's impact on the timbre...

think not only about "what is the easiest way"
think also "what does it sound like"

cos it's like having a tone control at your fingertips

I see there's a way to pre-order the new cd with the bonus dvd if you live in the UK and order from amazon.com/uk....but I don't really want to order from there since I live in Oregon, USA....

Is there any way for US folks to pre-order with the dvd yet? or no? And if so, where? Thanks.

They (Ibanez) need to make a Lefty JS Model... My opinion. I would buy one in an instant! Right now I'm playing the waiting game for the Satch Wah Pedal...sweet!

Ken:A good end o week t ya ol bro n all in satchland, on yer last post Ken, again no way as way, it would make me a hypocrite t say otherwise, goin with what comes natural, sure but also working on what does not is important

All the various techniques are t me like a bag of tools, if y dont possess em theres certain jobs you cant do or in this case play & sound like, on the king of legato....it will always be Holdsworth, he was the man that pioneered the technique, he is t legato what Gambale is t sweep what Paco de Lucia is t PIMAC as John Mclaughlin is t alt pickin as Scotty Anderson is t hybrid etc etc all of these techniques as amazing as it seems as still in their infancy, kids in 20 years from now will be doin stuff with those tools we,re not allowed t dream of at mo...thx god lol, last thing i need is another 20 years in the shed

Superstrings.......What DAW are you using?

-> Soundscape, these days known as SSL Soundscape after SSL bought the company.

www.sydec.be

It doesn't do MIDI, so I also have Cubase and Sonar for that. I use Soundscape for audio.

I hope SSL develop it to its full potential because it's a great system.

Thanks maritime, but actually, amazon.com only has the cd for sale, not the cd/dvd combo. If you read the description on both items, they each only say one disk...the difference being the price, $13.99 vs $51.49 for the import. I don't get that, makes no sense....but thanks for trying to help.

So, still on the hunt for a way to pre-order the cd/dvd combo for those of us in the US....webmaster, any ideas?
