scubadaz - When I saw Sammy Hagar last summer he actually brought Billy Duffy out to jam on a few songs. They didn't do Loud, but Sammy talked about it (he said they hadn't rehearsed it yet, or something)...he played lead on Rock Candy and another song or two also, I think.

cheese101 - Thanks for the extra info on that version of RBSH.
cosmic_ape - Yeah I think you're right, it does sound like just a clean acoustic guitar. The file name is the same as it was when I downloaded it years ago (I think I've had it longer than what Tracie mentioned, but I really don't remember). Anyway...
michelle - Those songs don't really hold their own against any older VH, but I like them because it was just nice to hear new music from the band. They did sound pretty good live, though, I remember that (especially Up For Breakfast). They had dropped Learning To See by the time I saw the tour, which was a bit of a bummer...but they replaced it with Seventh Seal, one of my favorite VH songs. So it worked out just fine.

Mr. McKenna--I'm wondering if those words may be a small section of "McKenna's Law". Ya know if there's a Murphy's Law, I was thinkin' there could very will be a McKenna's Law that is not so well known as Murphy's. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The Irish continue to puzzle and fasinate me as do the dutch!

You always have choices, man!

So today I went to see a soccer game here in town, over 20,000 in attendance waiting for the game to begin, and lo and behold Crowd Chant started blaring out of the speakers. It is such an obvious choice for a sporting event, but it's the first time they have used it for the soccer games here, it was a cool moment. I recorded a vid while it was playing, I'll try to put it up on the Tube for all to see. Later!!

Randel- Just got my Digitech Jam Man . bought it from Dave Weiner ( off his web sale). It's cool. It really is helping me already on improvising. It's been years since I played guitar with accompaniment.( being a drummer) You will love your Jam looper...

Hey Joe- I saw you play your harmonica with a hands free harmonica holder. It looked like it was attached to your microphone stand. Where did you find that and where can I get one? I have been looking everywhere. It's tough playing bass and harmonica at the same time. The over the shoulder holders just don't cut it. Any info. would be greatly appreciated from anyone! Thanks!!!

Sapanaro, welcome to the forum!
If you look closely, it seems that JOE has a little device that holds the harmonica, but the gizmo itself is attached to the mic with tape... It looks like it's something either JOE or his tech MacGyvered... I had the exact same question years ago and I never got an answer...

Perhaps this is an alternative you might be interested in... Or you can buy the regular neck holder from Jim Dunlop, that one looks easier to disassemble and maybe "tweak" to get it to fit around a microphone...

...just a thought...

I'm for the old bamboo straws under the fingernails torture for writers of computer viruses. My laptop is sick...I'm trying to use that one for recording with little luck or should I say no luck...Moving back upstairs tomorrow to the trusty ol' desktop.

Is it really true that MAC has very little problems with viruses?..I am a pretty calm guy for the most part, but I think I need to sleep and let my blood pressure subside,...I could scream...This virus is a doozie. It takes over the administrator profile and will not let me log on. Of course it wont let me update virus software from the other profiles...Smart little virus it is. So now I think it has left the door open for others to come in. I understand that you need to remove the hard drive and connect to another computer as an external drive to clean it.

Well enough with my problems..sorry.. But watch out for this virus. Have a great week folks.

download malwarebytes and avg free, that will clean your system up, dont bother with norton, although norton 2009 has sorted itself out, but norton antivirus is bollocks, mcaffee are alrite now, but avg and malwarebytes free simple reliable software that will clean my problems up, and macs are much more reliable than windows, and less subseptable to virus's yes, but with more and mroe people using macs now, you never know, but genereally yea you have the right idea

and external hard drives are the best for recording, wave files and get to be ridiculous file sizes and if u have ur music u can always transport to the studio easier with a simple hard drive, make sure its fast 7200rpm and firewire 2... 800mbps transfare is beter than usbs 400 and something i forget which type of hardrive storage is the best... google the different formats

Do The Stu - I just started listening to Oz Noy a few days ago. I got 2 albums - "Fuzzy" and "Ha!". Hard to separate them out right now in my head without listening a few more times. Both have some really cool stuff, plus some stuff that's a little out there. I'm digging it so far, though. I'd say just listen to some previews on Amazon or iTunes and see if any of it grabs you. Bits and pieces of it vaguely remind me of a cross between Charlie Hunter (7 and 8-string jazz guitar player who plays both the guitar and bass parts at the same time! - and he also took lessons from Satch years ago) and Johnny A.

If you like that, Alex Skolnick is another guy I've been listening to lately, even more towards the jazz side of things. He's the guitarist from Testament but he put together a jazz trio which of course sounds nothing like Testament. It's actually pretty amazing how he can play such a totally different style and does it so well.

Oh and on the subject of recommendations, I have to mention GHS - Frank Gambale, Stu Hamm, and Steve Smith. You may already know about this one, given your nickname. ;) They did 3 albums together of fusion/jazz type stuff. Really great stuff.

Guess I've been on a jazz and fusion kick lately! Of course, Chickenfoot's gonna bring me right back in to some good old rock and roll. ;)

I just finished my last shift at work. My job is moving to an office in West Covina (aka the Middle of Nowhere), where I would have been required to do work for nine newspapers instead of two, and I decided not to move with it. I've known about the move for about 4 months and decided I wouldn't be going about 2 months ago, so I'm feeling OK. I have a bit of money saved up and I got a small severance package, so I'll get be able to get by for at least a few months.

It feels good to get out, to be honest...I don't know that I've ever complained about that job here, but it's really a horrible and unfortunate situation.

Anyway, I'm not looking for pity or anything like that...I just wanted to share this. And yes, I'll still be going to CHICKENFOOT!!! :-)

scubadaz - I don't know too much by the Cult, but I love what I've heard. I stop by their section whenever I'm in a good CD store, but I haven't bought anything yet. I see they have a lot of those "instant live" releases that look interesting. I'll probably start with Love as my first album, though.

I think we have similar Van Halen tastes...that's good. ;-) I take it you don't have OU812, though? The production on that album isn't the best (as far as VH is concerned) but there's some great music there. You've heard a few songs on the BOBW compilation, but I really like some tracks that didn't make it...Mine All Mine is a great keyboard-driven piece (like Jump but much more interesting and with a faster tempo), and A.F.U. (Naturally Wired) and Source Of Infection are also neat.

elpp - Cool...I'd love to see that Crowd Chant video. I think there's an NHL team that uses it whenever they score a goal (the Phoenix Coyotes, maybe?
pepepersini - Very cool video...thanks for sharing.
burly - Yes, Macs generally don't have virus problems. It's not really true that the computers are built to be immune to them, it's just that Apple has such a small market share that the people who make viruses don't bother making them for Macs. They can infect more PCs.

And I see that Al just said something similar, but I've already typed this so I'm going to leave it. ;-)

satchblues - Thanks for the recommendations...I'll check out some Amazon clips and get back to you. And I'm somewhat familiar with Alex Skolnick...he's another name on the ever growing list of musicians I need to check out.

And you're right about GHS...I like them A LOT. I got the first two albums shortly after I saw Satch live for the first time (with Stuuu).

Astral Traveler is my favorite song of theirs...I love Stu's bass solo there. I really like all their music, though. I've been listening to their first album a lot lately, and Lydia's Love Van is a current favorite. What are some of your GHS favorites?

And getting back to another artist you mentioned...I'm sure you know of and have Eric Johnson's stuff with the Electromagnets? More jazz fusion for you...

Listening to: Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien (current song: Lords Of Karma)

I slapped together a pedal board today. Used some shelves out of the wall unit. It was easier than I thought. Thanks to fatape for the jigsaw, and no, it went nowhere near my guitars. I'll make a fancy one next time, with proper equipment and have all the cables hidden and stuff. Yes stuff, definitely stuff...

Well i just loaded the YJM strat with a set o texas specials n guage 13,s.... was surprised how hot these puppys were so sat em flush with the scratchplate about an inch away from the strings & the pickups opened up.... just WOW fingerlickin SRV tone, that red rec has never been so lit

Ozzy_Fudd:nice lil setup bud but b4 y do anything buy some decent 1/4 pedal jacks n guitar leads ffs y just gone n royaly fucked up yer tone with those nasty plastic pedal connections.Velcro is a pain, apart pickin up every dust mite in town yer goin t eventually strip the spec info off the arse o yer pedals if you care t place them in a different order, best idea t stop em movin is super glue in a small square stick either side of the pedal so its tight n snug with a piece o cloth on the inside t stop it gettin scratched if yer heavy footed screw em in place
