Man... just got back from a gig tonight and I'm just wired BIG TIME. We had a great show and everyone really dug the set. There's no drug on the planet that can compare the rush after a good show - period.

JOE - After a good night, are you generally amp'd up or what? Does it take you while to wind down after each performance, or since you've been at this for quite some time, you're able to just kick back right away regardless? Just curious. :) Not sure if you're checking in from the road, but we are all looking forward to your show here in San Diego next week.

Sorry, gotta vent:

jeesus, why doesnt anybody ever post the set list in their reviews?I dont wanna read about your damn life story, man, just tell me what he played, if you wanna talk about your issues, get a therapist or a goldfish. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

ok, Im alright.

Is Joe gonna be doing revolving setlists this tour?I think that would rock, cuz a lot of people go to see more than one show, Its kinda a bummer if they get the same setlist, dont ya think?

Dream Theater did revoving sets, and it was awesome (Well, I only have boots since I was stuck in hawaii for this tour, but still...)

I know some DT fans go and 2-3, even 5 shows each tour, so that must be a real treat.Probably more fun to play for the performer too, I would think.

ok, Im done complaining.for today, that is.

sorry about the width, fixed it :)

ethn: people who play js songs and do their own improv should be shot...if you're gonna cover someone elses song you better play it as it's written, it's just morally incorrect not to...and what do you do if you can't play it pefectly? don't record it..simple!

invigor..why should we? if we cant play the entire song? whats wrong with improvisation? what you said is exactly how modern pop covers are made. with improvisation, it shows you understand the peice and it gives it a unique feel and your own kind of version of it. i prefer this, it makwes me a better player and makes me understand music more, learning notes is learning notes and doesn't require musical understanding, it may require technique, but technique is not feeling and does not give the song feeling. [rant over now :)]

invigor:what?! thats hilarious.

I feel EXACTLY the opposite.Everytime I see someone cover a satch tune, I have been 10X more impressed if they add their own touches. If you wanna hear it exactly as written, listen to the original. No offense to matt, but an exact cover really does nothing for me, personally.Matts wasnt exact thopugh, so it was still fun to listen to (He approached the rhythm guitar slightly different, which I thought was cool)

Some Joe songs are just amazing to improvise over.Everytime I attempt to improv over something like Clouds Race Across the sky, or Engines of Creation, I feel like I learn more about myself.

That is part of the joy of satriani, for me.He comes up with this stuff, which for me, are like music lessons.

Improvising is what it is all about, for me.Anybody can learn a song note for note, in all honesty. That just takes time and practice. But to make a statement on the spot, that's something all together, and no one can really teach you how to do it, its a lesson that you are on your own to learn.

so, I disagree, 125,000%

:D

I very rarely do a note for note of any of satch's stuff, so you would probably hate to hear me do a Satch tune.

Invigor: Jimmy Page once said something along the lines of: "If your going to cover one of my tunes, change it up and see where you can take it. Everyone already knows what I did with it, why not see what you can do with it." That's the reason he was so happy with that Puff Daddy atrocity, but hey, he did something different with it.

Yeah, last time I spoke to Joe I told him how much Clouds race across the sky means to me, because I can just sit there for an hour just playing over that progression.I get lost, and I treasure those times when I can get there.

He seemed to think that was ok.

But, I dont wanna jump all over invigor for his opinion.Cuz that's all it is.His opinion, and I have no problem with him sharing it, I only reacted harshly because I STRONGLY disagree with it, hehe.

So, I'm sorry if I didn't express my self constructively.
