Matt: Maybe some strings take longer to settle down than others...

Joe Satrini: Cycling has been a part of my life longer than solid food =D That Trek won't be cheap I presume?

Just got my results today, 7 A*'s and 4 A's (which is good apparently). I am quite chuffed, as an A in Maths was not really expected until this last year in school. (it's never been a strongpoint you see...) I now have a perma-smile...=D

So you're saying I got 8 packs of the wrong strings!? And before my bridge was too low now it;s too high. I barely got to play it, now it's broken again. wasted a trip to guitarcenter. tried fixing it myself, but I accidently released the springs, so I had to put those back on. now I can either get it in tune, or I can have a straight bridge, but I can't get both. AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I REGRET GETTING A FLOATING BRIDGE SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it when it is fixed but hate fixing it. It is sooo much work and sooo many adjustments. L8R >.<

@Guitarman 77897:

Setting up a floyd rose bridge can be pretty simple, First, loose the "fine tune" screws on the bridge all the way (by turning them clockwise) and then adjust them half a turn.

Put the strings on the guitar but don't tune them all the way (just adjust them 'till they get a bit tense).

Now adjust the springs in the back of the guitar twisting the screws SLOOOWLY and Doing just A QUARTER TURN A TIME EACH untill the bridge is just in the position you want (Also make sure the screws are equally "into" the guitars body, i.e. the metal plate is parallel to the side where the screws are added)...

Once the bridge is in the position you want it, tune the strings starting in the low E. As the tension in the strings increases the bridge is gonna move, so you have to adjust the springs again (REMEMBER, TURN THE SCREWS SLOWLY AND EVENLY) this will vary the tension in the strings, therefore it will go out of tune, that's normal.

Retune the guitar, and adjust again the springs, repeat untill the guitar keeps in tune and the bridge is at the height you desire.

It shouldn't take you more than 5-6 cycles, otherwise you may want to stretch the strings by pulling upwards each string separately so the weight of the guitar helps you stretch it.

Once everything is perfect lock the neck and you're ready to go! You'll never regret a floyd rose bridge again ;)

Sorry for being relatively quiet for a few days...I've had a bit of a crazy schedule with all the concerts I've been going to. I have one more DMB show tomorrow, and then I have a bit of a break...

mariusar - In the case of the Olympics, I'm not sure if artists get paid at all for the use of their music. I don't know what international rules are in place, but China is under no obligation to follow US copyright law or royalty agreements. That's not a shot at China...it'd be true with any two countries.

In the US, when music is played over stereos at bars, restaurants, or similar places, artists get paid through writing/publishing groups (ASCAP or BMI). I think those payments are made on an estimated basis, based on limited audits those companies do. So a band like Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith makes a great deal more from these deals than someone like Satch will. But we aren't talking any huge money here...the payments are rather small.

I think the same arrangement is in place when things are broadcast on TV, but some networks might cut individual deals with the songwriters/publishers/record companies. I'm not quite sure how that works. But people do get paid.

sercro - Sorry for my late reply, but thanks for sharing. I got into Satch through the first G3 album as well, and it's always cool to hear about other people coming across his music the same way.

Anyway, again...welcome to the site.

Igneousiceman - Ah...give Firefly a shot. The movie Serenity is shorter, yeah, but the TV show came first and I think it's a bit better. So start with that. There were only 14 episodes made before the show was cancelled...you can buy the series on DVD for about $30 (US dollars).

It's a space western (but don't let that stop you if you don't like westerns...I generally don't, and I love this show) set 500 years in the future. There was a big civil war, with the main character fighting on the losing side. He became a smuggler after the war. If I were to greatly oversimply the plot, you could say it's set in a Star Wars universe without aliens and the show revolves around a Han Solo-type and his crew.

I hate to compare this show to Star Wars, as it's quite different from that, but that's the easiest way to describe it briefly. The main character isn't your typical hero, either...he's very dark.

It's excellent television...check it out.

Mikel Thomas - Hi...welcome to the site. It's cool to hear that your daughter is into Satch at such a young age.
acortesi - Welcome to you as well...what's your favorite Satch album?
Joe Satrini - Back when Joe was working onwould become SBM, he asked all of us here to suggest some album titles. I came up with a lot of stupid ones, I'm sure, but one of my favorites was something along the lines of "Swimming in a Sea of Chrome." My reasoning was the same as yours, kinda...he's done Dreaming, Surfing, and Flying, but no swimming.
gotta have Joe - Come join us at the San Francisco show...it's a weekend, can't you find a way to make it work? ;-)

...Austin...

DoTheStu: If it's anything like a CLint Eastwood spaghetti western I'm sure to love it! Does sound like an interesting concept though, a futuristic western...Star Wars is great though. =D

Do the Stu - I did finally get a chance to listen to all the mp3's you sent. Good stuff. They are different. I think I might have to buy a cd and start giving it a more thorough listen. So you've been to quite a few concerts lately. That's awesome. DMB a couple times?

Michelle - Thanks for the link for Wiener. I really like his stuff. Come to think of it, after I saw his pics, I remember seeing him with Vai in one of the G3 video's now. I have those DVD's somewhere around here. I'll have to check it out. I live the Got Licks things, Classic!

Well, hopefully in a little over a week Joe will be in the studio with Sammy making some really great music. I'm excited like a kid at Christmas waiting for this. I think Joe playing with Sammy singing is a great match.

Does anyone on the site have the Satchurater yet? Any thoughts?

OK peeps,

Roo's NEWSATCH collection is almost ready to rock.

It's gettin close so you are all free to come visit:

http://roo.emu.id.au/newsatch

It's a labour of love, I am trying to get it all up to date, there are still some cover scans missing, and only most of the CDs are loaded. Have to work on Vinyl, DVD, VHS, Shirts, Plectrums, posters, etc,etc,etc,etc..... :)

So what's cool is it's all been disected. The idea is you can get a list of venues and look at all songs recorded at that venue, or all CD's with that venue on it, or check all artists that performed on a track and see what other tracks they've played on, etc, etc. Still working on the navigation. Check out the scans not only of the covers, but also of the disks!

There's still a lot to do. Feel free to rate things and leave comments. Please create an account with the same name as your T2J account here, and we can use it as an extension of our other sites. There's some tracks I don't know where or when they were recorded, so please leave as many comments as you like to comment on content and also supply any information I haven't got - then I can get the information as accurate as possible. I also then have to start putting up MP3 and video samples of everything.

Note: There's a little icon for RSS feeds on the bottom of many pages, click on that and you can get updates when things change, very cool.

And lastly, there is a "wanted" section, if you can find ANYthing in that section, please buy it or get it and let me know how much you want.

Thanks guys, hope you enjoy it. Roo of the NEWSATCH collection. (Probably still under construction for the next 30 years)

HEY JOE, I asked Galen, but can you please let me know if there were any photos taken of you when you were at the Ibanez stand at Taranaki? Do any of the T2Jers here have any from then? I REALLY need to see if there are some, specifically holding the JS20th and Black Dog prototypes from there.

Thanks all. Roo

Yes I know I am a disaster. But it's my first floating bridge. I can't do all of the adjustments yet. Al do you have a floating bridge?

Secro-thanx for the post, I just don't know which way to turn the screws.

If my bridge is up and away from the guitar do I tighten or loosen the springs?

I don't want to spend another $25 for them to fix my guitar AGAIN AFTER THREE F*CKING DAYS!!!!!!!!!!

I hate my guitar right now. for the first night after it was fixed. It sounded so nice, LOVED IT! Now I hate it. L8R >.<
