You're right about the confidence... right now I have the mood on that makes me feal as though I could set about the guitar with a hammer and it would sound great.... sling it to the floor and it would land in C#m [the heaviest of all keys.. lol].. the way Wrath feals right now tells me that she's busting to be played and she's well up for the recording sessions...

Rock singer Robert Palmer, known for his sharp suits and hits including "Addicted to Love," died Friday in Paris of a heart attack, his manager said. He was 54.

Palmer was on a two-day break in Paris following a television recording session in Britain, his manager Mick Carter said from the French capital.

In the 1980s, Palmer became a superstar with singles which also included "Simply Irresistible"-- accompanied by slick videos featuring the smartly dressed Palmer with a back-up band of attractive women, all in black outfits and glossy makeup.

A side project, Power Station, formed in 1985 with John Taylor and Andy Taylor of '80s supergroup Duran Duran, scored three U.S. Top 10 hits, including "Communication" and "Get it On."

The son of a British naval officer, Palmer was a member of several British rock bands before he hit the big time as a solo artist.

He had lived in Switzerland for the past 16 years.

Known for his GQ sense of style, Palmer was named best dressed male artist by Rolling Stone in 1990.

The "Addicted to Love" video, with its miniskirted models strumming guitars as Palmer sang, became one of MTV's most-played clips, and sparked protests from some feminists.

"I'm not going to attach inappropriate significance to it because at the time it meant nothing. It's just happened to become an iconic look," Palmer once said of the video.

He had his first hit album and single, "Sneakin' Sally through the Alley," in 1974.

In his 20s, Palmer worked with a number of small-time bands including Dada, Vinegar Joe, and the Alan Bown Band. He occasionally appeared in opening acts for big draws, including The Who and Jimi Hendrix.

Palmer once confessed that he was not attracted to the excesses of rock 'n' roll stardom.

"I loved the music, but the excesses of rock 'n' roll never really appealed to me at all," he said. "I couldn't see the point of getting up in front of a lot of people when you weren't in control of your wits."

He was noted for dressing up and being somewhat restrained.

"I don't want to be heavy," he said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

"I can't think of another attitude to have toward an audience than a hopeful and a positive one. And if that includes such unfashionable things as sentimentality, well, I can afford it."

Climber - thanx for the comment... There's a little story attatched to Balena.. The was a guy who used to come in here a while ago call DeAvila.. a real nice guy.. lives down in Sao Paulo Brazil... he wrote a little tune but was struggling to come up with a chord progression that fit nice so he asked me to help him.. he sent me an e-mail with the notes of the melody and described the duration of each note etc.... I figured that he was struggling because the melody momentarily modulates [changes key] and steps back tpo the original key again... I sent him a big long reply talking about various options as to how the modulation could be handled.. next he starts asking about the lydian mode as he was getting confused with this stuff... so I explained all of this and he seemed to be picking everything up pretty good... I suggested "how about if I interpret your sweet little tune my way, create a backing track and record it... I can then stick it up on the IUMA site for you"
so the main melody was writen by Cristian [DeAvila] but the backing idea was my example to illustrate what I was try to teach him... I figured that the melody needed a contrasting section, Chris wanted to know about Lydian, so I added the Lydian thing on the back of it...
So this ended up a kind of 'applied' theory / song writing tutorial... it was a lot of fun... Chris liked it very much..

my album is a very different thing to what you'll hear on the IUMA site... the closest thing to my 'current' sound on there is The Rape of the Sabine Women [which will be on the album]...

hehe, I'm sorry but Stu Clone, I'm so with you on this one.....Pizza Man, I have no doubts that Graham can play bass well. You can't really come into a 'community', from new, and slag off those who have been here since the beginning. I think experience is valuable.

pizza man: Sorry dude, I guess it was somebody else who made the post to me. Anyways, I really only liked the first s/t cd from Extreme. That album shreds! There are some good songs on "Three sides" as well. The solo in "Get the funk out" is sick! Didn't really care for the song though.

Fretslayer:- I'm assuming marcello played on "final countdown" - love that solo too- buy i'm not 100% sure.- john sykes played with whitesnake before steve vai.- i.e."still of the night."- love that solo as well. -Nuno is great, but he's certainly not my favorite. Did you ever hear ozzie foxs' guitar playing? I'm not a big fan of stryper, but I do like a lot of his solos.

I'm really looking forward to the G3 at Massey Hall in Toronto. I live in South Africa, and my brother lives in Toronto, so when he said that he was going to the concert, I told him to buy me a ticket as well. Hey! What's a 20 hour flight and +/- $1,000 later compared to an evening with Joe, Steve and Yngwie.
