migupais, I'm glad my suggestions helped! I love feedback, but never play with it... you've inspired me!!!! In a larger place the rules are pretty much the same, but you need more volume. Remember, Joe's guitar is only feeding back to his amps (not so much the PA in the venue), that's when I said that he likes to put tape on the floor, I guess he does it at the soundcheck... so at the gig he can just stand at each place and know what will happen ;-)
ethn so did you get your amp? or does the time difference mean it'll be tomorrow? If he backs down,. do it again, but get him to order it online while he's still harried ;-)
oh, yeah, migupais, I posted that link to Alex Van der Linde he's really good isn't he? Anyone else checked him out yet?
Mike Smith I don't think they're for sale, but there are some amazing guitar builders / painters out there who can do outstanding copies ;-)
Stu Clone didn't you mention recently how much he charges for lessons? If that was me I wouldn't be looking for donations, I'd be looking for somewhere to invest... :-/
Later all... Dave's cream crackered LOL

smithers - Heres what i have figured out of time machine... the intro is a big whopping D chord (dont forget to drop the D) with various sounds. The little scale type thing is just the Amaj Scale starting on the F# of the E string, while pedal-toning your low D. Next part is something like
B--|:--14-14-12--14-:|3x-----9--9--9--9-10-9-7----------
Again, Joe goes back to the A maj scale for the Melody
D-4--4--6--7--6~~--6--6--7--9--11~~--9--7--6~~
D--4--4--6--7--9~~--9--9--11--12--14~~
I should Add that the "key" of this probably isnt Amaj.. its D major with a sharped 4.. whatever mode F to F on the white keys is :) locrian perhaps? I dont feel like looking it up
Email me if you want the rest of what i know.. i dont wanna waste a lot of space tabbing it out.

Mr Nick.. Thanks
Modes are where my music studies are taking me next. I understand how they are formed, but i dont 'know' them by their altered scale degrees, i'm trying to associate them with a certain sound (phrygian - latin, aeolian - well, natural minor, dorian - minor, but more harmonically interesting) But the modes everyone seems to talk about seem to escape my grips at the moment. Just gotta hit the woodshed is all
On that note.. does anyone know what scale Joe uses for the "solo" of time machine sounds somewhere around F#minor or Amajor, but the licks from earlier in the song dont work... :/
one last note - lydian was my first guess seeing that G to G is mixolydian, but locrian sounds much more cooler :) Either way im more comfortable playing in Amaj than D lydian

jstrat57... you're more comfortable playing in A major than D Lydian? hmmmm... perhaps it's time you got a grip... and maybe a theory book
OK, so my last two or three attempts failed miserably (apart from one person).... all I will now do is post a link to this guy until you pull your fingers out and listen to him! It's not like I'm asking you to change religion or anything.... he plays his guitars very well, and *will* put some of you to shame....
Alex van der Linde
And no - I've never met him, emailed him, nor am I him.... but he deserves to be listened to.

Phry - Its totally a mental thing. If i'm jamming along and some one goes... play me a cool like over this chord pro and use D lydian. I'll stumble around thinking about wheres all the #4s rather than if someone says play in Amaj, i know right where i need to go. So yes, i need a theory book, and a plane ride back to reality :) Ive been playing blues for the better part of a decade, so "mode" to me means you get ice cream on your apple pie. Im getting there. Translating the ones i can to major/minor scales is really helping me (a la d lydian to Amaj). I think it'd stick better if I learned how they were formed and woodshedded them myself then memorizing from a theory book.
Side note.. this first happened when i was trudging through raspberry jam and realized i could play whatever B scale i was up at my more "known" Emajor position. Now whenever i learn a modal line/song i try to figure out what major/minor scale it fits with and it has really helped my improving.
I checked out that van derlinde guy.. I really liked his flying.. and the acoustic always with me was very very nice. Thats all ive checked out so far, will get more when time allows

PhryDom- :) Cool! Didn't know that my questions could inspire someone! I'll see if I can come up with more! I love feedbacks too! They can sound really great! Flying in a Blue Dream has one of my favourite intros, if not my favourite! They look like whales crying! Great! Of course my feedbacks don't sond like Joe's... At least for now... But I surely have a great time playing with them! :)
A stupid but curious thing: If you point a TV remote or any other remote between the neck pickup and the beginning of the neck and press any button, it makes a really stupid sound... but it's curious... Not sure it's harmless, but still curious...
Anyone else uses guitar pro? I mean, I see a lot of people asking for tabs and stuff, I have 36 guitar pro tabs of Joe Satriani, and they have 119 satriani tabs at mysongbook.com. With the demo you can use downloaded files but I think you have some limits for composing and, the worst thing, you can't print... But it's definately (did I spell that correctly?) worth downloading! I have the full version, and I use it a lot! You can even write with standard notation and it converts it to tab format! And you can convert midi into tab, tab into midi, tab any instrument you want. Really cool! Check it out here!
