I quite agree, but then again, neither is a wrong war in Iraq, saying to N. Korea 'you're next', closely followed by Iran!

It also didn't fill me with joy when people who lived just over a mile from me took a day trip to blow up peeps in London.

What the world needs now................

meandmrvai, hell yeah brotha! It's the subtleties in Eric's music and arrangement that get me every time. Actually no it's not just the subteleties, 'cause everything about the way he crafts his music is simply beautiful. Bloom is still killing me, it's such a good album, and Columbia really stirs up some emotions. I haven't listened to Venus Isle in a while....think I'll have to go give it a listen! hehe. What do you reckon the chances are of an EJ live DVD?

OCPS470, that's an odd problem you got there dude. I really don't know. I have a Fender Performer 650 (valvestate-type amp) which got switched off while it was in use at a school gig. That seemed to have royally f*ck*d it up, and it rattled all the time, like a cone had been busted or something, but it doesn't seem to do it any more. It's strange...maybe Fenders are self-repairing? I hope so, for your sake.

Also, what Legacy cab do you have? I'm guessing a top cab rather than bottom....I got the base cab cause it's a little tighter on the low frequencies, and with the Legacy, perhaps more than most amps, you can really tell the difference.

Everyone, any of you been tempted by the mirror-top Jem yet? I tried one yesterday and it sucked. It was so uninspiring. It didn't feel special in any way and it doesn't look that great.

Also, I was playing about with it a bit, nothing severe, but was playing some bluesy stuff and hit the G string quite hard and the trem warbled. I couldn't believe I was getting trem-warble off a 2-grand guitar.

Next to the Jem was a prestige thru-neck RG, also a shade under 2-grand. I tried the same thing on that and it too warbled. I picked a JS100 off the wall, which has the lower-budget hardware and supposedly lesser-quality bridge, and it was perfect.

It played great, it had character, the bridge was stable and useable, and no matter how hard you pick any of the stings, it didn't warble.

Sledgers, no problem dude, it's a cool technique to get used to. EJ uses it a lot in his melodies and chord changes.....when he's just letting rip with a fast run between phrases he just picks the whole lot. This too is a real kick in the nuts, 'cause he's synch-picking rather than playing legato, but has so much control and such well set-up tone that it sounds legato. Man, I love EJ's playing!

Read your posts as asked.

I'm not sure i fully agree with you morally and politically but having been involved in four wars as well as being mistaken for a mercenary in an African coup I have developed a strong sense of what I believe is right and what is wrong when it comes to war and violence.

FYI, I am not and never have been in the direct employ of the military.

Cuth 1776 - I am not fooled. I understand where you are coming from, just don't judge it - although I am wary. I watched the movie Minority Report the other day, set in 2054. I wonder if the filmmaker knew the words of Mr Bush would be said as soon after his film as they were "we are fighting them abroad so we dont have to face them at home". Is that not the same as the movie! Judge people first - they are bound to be bad after all!

US has more political alliances than any other nation - and they are just that, political. Normally in the guise of something good and ethical, but its not. I'm not picking on the US, all nations are the same way. Thats politics. US is bigger and richer, does more bad things and its seen as good things by many. Its all slick marketing and PR.

I support anyone's opinion and point of view. Its all valuable. I am skeptical, but I don't see the choice for Russia and China and other nations but to form these alliances. In politics, its power, oppression and survival of the fittest. Get as much as you can for yourself. Look at every good act, always a selfish plan behind it.

Its the way the world has become, so I can't stand opposed to other nations doing exactly the same as the one I reside in.

Anyway, I try never to get political and opinionated here - but I just did. I'll stop that now.

Question for all

It may be wrong to ask this question in this place but I'm sure JS wouldn't mind.

I only know of Vai's work from the G3 dvd but...

How does his album work stand when compared with JS?

As ITLIS was my first JS album I am now comitted to buying all his catalogue and need to know if I am going to have to buy Mr Vai as well!

Thanks in advance for your input

Thanx Simon Daultrey

Yep it's weird that Joe and EJ use Hybrid picking, because Eric johnson has a much thicker tone than Vai or Satch ....He seems to use pentatonic runs a lot......and on a Fender Strat hehe I am amazed how much you know for someone whos only played guitar for five years .... More than me lol ....
