mischievous i dont think you will be seeing gary moore on the g3 tour ever considering that he said he didnt like joe's music. I also met him on several occasions ( through his producer who is a freind of my dad ) and he is a very arrogant person.

G3 Toronto - Was a lot of fun. Actually bought a Joe Shirt! Thought those things didn't exist.
I have to admit, I had never heard Yngwie's playing before, and I liked it. But I have to say that I can totally see the "unleashing of the fury"! The scales/sweeps etc got a little old, I don't think I could have all Yngwie CD's in the stereo like I can do with Joe. After a while it felt like I was constantly in the final battle stage of Final Fantasy game, or playing Fantasia in fast forward.
Vai was a welcome relief from the classical era, but still nothing compared to Joe. I didn't particularly like that new "slow" song he had, can't remember the name. It sort of sounded like most of those "free the whales, world peace for all!" songs. It was lacking...something.
Joe was great. I loved those new guitars! I had a perfect view of his fretboard from my balcony seat. What I like about Joe is that there is never any emotion lacking in his work. And I love how he improvised in the songs rather than drawing out his Jams at the end. Joe is the best. I particularly like this quote from the November issue of Guitar World:
"A head shorter than the other two, his clean-shaven pate shrouded in a crazy quilted hat, Satch is like the wise, patriarchal monk in kung-fu movies--the tranquil master who could kick the crap out of everybody if he felt like it."
Sorry if that has been posted already, I've been without a pc for close to two months! :)
Rock on, Joe!

Thank you Joe.
In Toronto at the meet and greet I was having a picture taken with you and of course the camera acted up. You said take a couple more just in case. Well the first one didnt show up but the next two did. Thank you Mr. Satriani for showing you usual class and grace, it comes through your music and as you are in person. It was a class show and worth every penny.
All the best
Greg

jimi fender bender - but of course... twice. And it's beautiful.
the whole filesharing thing - i don't do it at all apart from very limited checking out of bands - it is after all how i got into both JS and LTE. But I then delete the files - in my opinion, if the music's not good enough to make want to support the artist behind it, it's not good enough to pollute my musical ear- extreme I know, but bathe in filth and you're going to end up muddy.
I also have no illegally copied programs on my computer. I think that's even more of a problem. If you look at Sibelius, it's so massively overpriced that no-one buys it, even with student discounts, and virtually every music student at my uni has an illegal copy (apart from me) since it is so useful. That's just unrealistic stupidity from the company involved.

G3-Toronto
Man what can I say, I'll post a mini-thorough review on here, focus primarily on Joe:
Well what can I say... A hell of a lot but the highlights go like this, Got to the venue at around 6pm, word is Joe was around for a short while, and some dude kept telling him he knew his wife's sister, that he's from England, and Joe kept saying- my wife's sister is not from England. haha
Then, the crowd around the side stage was quickkly disbanding, and entering the hall, while we waited maybe another short while and decided to head in before 5 minutes of Y.J.M.'s set. I couldn't last sitting in there, waiting for him to come out when I knew Joe would be coming back from his supper in T.O., with no-one out there, so I grabbed my ticket, told my fellow buds that I'm going to meet Joe, not seeing YJM is worth the sacrifice for making direct and personal communication with Joe Satriani.
No luck, within the time span of appr. 8 minutes- of us entering the hall, and me coming back outside...Joe had waltzed through the side doors, and was inside. Yes...this was very saddening to me, but I didn;t believe it, so I waited another 20 minutes, and walked in halfway during YJM's set, oh well, its the sacrifice and dedication that counts. At least for me.
The Show: Yngwie was I think awesome, i went in as a neutral observer, I've heard both sides, and just being a young guitar player, there is no reason to criticise the guy to the extent that some people on here, and everywhere else do. He did a good number, totally 80's get-up. Rock On.
Steve Vai Awe inspiring, beautiful, powerful. This is how I see Steve Vai, this is what he radiates of, and this is what he displayed for us. Triple neck, amazing... Juice- amazing, NEW SONG- very intricate, and of course, Whispering A Prayer, which was dedicated to someone. Just pure magic, it was played flawlessly. What was great was when he involved the crowd into mimicking his feedback, like Joe did on Live in S.F. it was great. The best thing I found about the set was how when he was done, everyone stood up for the standing ovation of course, and then waves of applause just kept going ang going, he was completely overwhelmed, smiling and looking at the side stage in amazement "When will they stop?" hehe, that showed his true humble character. He also said "Man, you guys got me feeling so good, you guys in the front row better watch it, I might explode later"
The Alien First thing's first, you never notice how short Joe is until you are on the same level as him, last time I seen him I was up top at the 2nd balcony, it was just surpiring to see that he's probably around 5'5''!? Here is the set as I remember (fairly well):
1.Satch Boogie
2.The Extremist
3.Crystal Planet
4.Starry Night
5.Midnight
6.Flying In A Blue Dream
7.The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing
8.Always With Me, Always With You
9.Summer Song
I keep thinking I am missing a song in between The Extremist and Starry Night, my apologies.
God, he was AMAZING! So much STAGE PRESENCE, he had so much power over us, over me! Every song had me in anticipation before it was played, and when it was, I was the only one that was expressing my emotions towards his songs at the side stage, everyone was so conservative and still? Cmon man, it's Joe!
I can't believe how good he was, he had a glow in the dark alien shirt, his new (I think) red guitar was his preferred choice, as was the old chrome boy, and the flames one. Peavey Triple X rig is so smooth!
Alright, I'm done. All I can say is, that Joe was phenomenal, very pleasing to the mind's aural senses, and I cannot wait to see him again.
Thanks Joe, I am honored to be your fan.
(Sorry this turned out to be so long.)

Mikesb Thanks for the great reviews! How Yngwie is putting up with all the stuff everybodys throwing at him is amazing! He's hanging in there longer than anyone expected. Everybody else btw Yngwie did not try to hog the stage or outdo anybody in Atlanta. They were all just about perfect that night. In my opinion that night no one G outdid the other, they were all incredibly equal.

Hi all, not much to say, but decided to drop in for a while. Was it Paul Gilbert's birthday yesterday? It's nice to know that other than me, there are actually other people who enjoy reading the G3 interview on Guitar World so much! Was jamming yesterday. Fun. Anyone want their eyebrows trimmed and looking nice? I can do the job. Just drop by in my dorm and I can do whatever style you like.

Thanks for the cool G3 reviews, everyone!
sugarbear - There's a tab book for the entire SWTA album available at Amazon.com, if you're interested.
mikesb - I'm bummed that Joe didn't think there was enough room in some Deep Purple songs to really jam out. I can think of a few that would work just fine...oh well.
The Prez - As far as I know, Jeff hasn't released anything outside of his work with Joe.
pizzaboy - I heard that the JS sweatshirts sold out after the first few gigs. I think Joe was just selling the leftovers from the SBM tour, which is why they disappeared so quickly.

Lyz: Just read your comments on Vai. I realize everyone is entitled to their opinion, but "nothing" compared to Joe??? "Whispering a Prayer" is the song I believe you are talking about ( the world peace ref.) Something missing??? I'm having a hard time with these statemants. Vai is the definition of guitar mastery. But, to each his own.

THEPREZ: tell me what your gear setup is like, maybe I can help you get sustain without grit and buzz. That's been the tonal Journey I've been on the whole time I've been playing..."how do I get high gain lead tone without buzz dirt or grit, just fluid sustain"
TOALL: does any one think that "whisering a prayer is written for Japan? It reminds me of Japanese folk songs and some of Tak Matsumoto's work.
SO I went crazy the other day and hard tailed my LOTRSII on my red S470...I found a really superior way to do it too, better than most luthiers do it!

Does anybody else think that Jeff Campitelli is a terribly underratted drummer? I mean, I've heard him do very technical things, but he always plays what is appropriate, and always plays with feeling, not mechanical the way alot of prog guys can sound....however, his meter is very consistent. For my money he has kind of a modern Bonam style going on.

the prez I have never met Stu Hamm. My nickname used to be Greg M (which is my real name) but I changed it for a joke at the same time as loads of other people did it eg ovation became stuvation, narface became stuface etc and I haven't been bothered to change it back yet. As for buying satch stuff online, ebay will be your best bet.

Hey Joe. I have been listening to you since I was 12. I am now 21. Got my guitar when i was 12 and immediatly started practice everything you play. So i was really pissed off to hear that the G3 was coming to Toronto because i heard 2 weeks before the concert and obviously it was long sold out. But i drove to Toronto alone, spent 150$ on a ticket from a scalper that put me behind a big ass pole, and had the time off my life. I also caught your act last year in Toronto at the Ampethitre with dream theatre. Spectacular!! Keep these Toronto apperances coming. Your extremly appreciated here. Thanks for the pricless memories!

OCPS470 - Whispering A Prayer was written for Ireland.
mischievous - As far as we know, the order of songs in your setlist does not matter. So you can either list them in any random order or (like I have done) you can put them in an order that you think would sound good in concert.
