Let's discuss this guy Mike Orlando. Great chops!

He's in Portnoy's new band ADRENALINE MOB.

Can't wait to hear what that sounds like :-)

Secret Recording Project?

June 15, 2011

A few months ago our own Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that's "not really 100 percent a Metallica record." While Kirk may have jumped the gun a little (and has since been properly punished with a series of push-ups!), we are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed.

Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together. Some of you astute Bay Area residents may have picked up news of recent Lou Reed sightings in the greater San Francisco area and we have indeed been working at our home studio at HQ on and off over the last few months. In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.

A true innovator and easily one of the most influential songwriters, musicians, and performers in rock music history, Lou's work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist has such an enduring quality that he has long been revered and respected by us and many of our peers. We can't wait for you to listen to the finished record, so as we like to hear ourselves say around here, keep watching this spot for updates . . . we'll be back with more details as they come together.

Peace Lily: Thanks for the invite, we will be there in spirit, and please have a shot or 2 of the Jag for us :-) Have a great one, and I second Tracies congrat's on your graduate.... Compai!

....Now.... if Joe can ever work out another G3 with his crazy schedule (and hopefully Stevo can swing it), IMO Tosin Abasi & Animals As Leaders would rule as the 3rd G!! Check out the intro of this tune..It has Joe "Not Of This Earth" sweetness all over it!! \m/ And @ 3:35 it really starts rocking hard, oh yeah!! \m/

Thank God for Joe and all the influence he has planted over the years for Instrumental guitarists to strive for and create, and for striking that nerve in me way back to what can be done with the greatest instrument on the Planet!! :-)

Btw, michelle.... I second that on MIke Orlando..I like the fact he will be working with Mike, and he sounds so much more refreshing and "up my Joe alley" than John P, lol, but not a diss there! ;-) Thanks for the heads up....

Now that's funny!

I've heard it put a lot of ways over the years, but that's a first for that one! lol!

LMAO michelle, I didn't think of it that way, but now that I went back and re-read it..haha, it sounds so rude, lmao!!

This Tosin Abasi interview reminds me so much of a "Young Stach Tapes Joe" with the hat on and all, and take the 15min. to listen..he is so captivating and all that we want to be as guitarist's. He missed mentioning Joe (because of Steve IMO), but mentioned Gilberto, Steveo, Petrucci, Howe and Guthrie as influences....

Well, after yet more consideration, i've decided that i'll get either the JS1000 or the JS100, based upon these factors.

I have next to no income at the moment (just turned 16, hoping to get a part time job soon). I want a js guitar that stays in tune when you whammy. I want a JS :p lol

So if anyone has a 100, please please tell me how good the tremolo system is. I know it's an edge III, but other than that i know nothing about it. (also, how far up can you go on it before it snaps a string?) Also for those of you lucky enough to own a 1000, please tell me about the pros and cons (if there are any cons). I can go for either, but i'd like one within a year.

Thanks very much

Sorry for my recent enthusiasm, but these guys need to be heard to the masses! \m/

Or perhaps even Joe himself could answer my question? Although it's unlikely that he plays JS100's. What with him getting 1200's and 1000's for free :)

JS black dog: i see, i've never used a floyd rose before so that helps :D. How much does the 100 go out of tune when you do massive whammy things though? I would expect not much, it is a JS

Edge pro 3 is ok but thats about it... i find em a lil cheap compared to higher ones... the neck on the 100 prob isnt as nice either, but it's probably still a fine guitar!

js1200 is beautiful to play

Randell: lol bro, I remember you talking about G-Whiz before, and it really is great idea. Thanks for passing the good word from Steven, and please tell him to keep up the rock when he gets the chance! And I'm happy to hear your back in the swing of things at work..It was a long hard road for you, but you never gave up..Congrats!

/\/\ /\ R |<: You hit the nail on the head about Mike Orlando..I've been checking out his vids and he has some great phrasing to go along with it..fantastic player!

WhammyFreak: I ordered AAL as well, and Tosin really makes me feel like there is a new fresh Joe in Instrumental guitar! \m/

AAL music reminds me so much of when I first heard JOE for the first time.... This tune SORAYA has some mind altering melodies and phrasing.... I haven't been this excited about Instrumental guitar since JOE first lit the fire!

Man, this kid has got some great sense of melody and feel..so much like Joe, and btw.... 2:05~2:20 sounds so much like our own incredible guitar player Roy Marchbank..great stuff! \m/

Which means he's right up your Joe alley. ;-)

lol!

Wicked bad thunder storm here last night. The last BOOM of the night sat me straight up! I ran over to my daughters room to see if she was hanging by her fingernails off the ceiling. lol! She sleeps right at a window, but the windows in my sons room aren't to close to his bed. Between the lightening flash and the earth rumbling explosive sounding hit, there was no way I was falling back to sleep after that! It was sooo loud! The biggest hit was like the finale. After that, the storm was over. I have no idea what it hit, but it was close! Maybe it hit a transformer? I feel bad for anyone that was caught in it. It was baaaad!

Hello Jeff!
