Wow, a lot of talk about Buckethead around here lately... I remember someone posted something on here last year when MJ died that BH wrote as a tribute (I believe?), but I have never really listened to any of his work. Based on what I've read here, I would probably go see him if he were playing here in town (if tickets weren't too high), but I have had no intentions of actually seeking him out.

I suppose it is partly because of his image; I don't really dig the mask and bucket, but then again look at Kiss. I think I kind of picked up a bad vibe from the pic of BH that I saw, weird I know. I suppose if I am meant to like his music, then someday I will stumble across it; until then, I am happy not knowing whether or not I am missing anything!

I've found a lot of good music by accident, that's actually how I found Joe! 5 years ago this month now that I think about it. Stumbled across the G3 video of FIABD. If someone had asked me before that if I would be willing to listen to someone play guitar without words, I would have said no way, but the gods of music had other plans for me!

Ian

P.S. - I see that Gibson announced a "revolutionary" new guitar today, the Firebird X. Good looking guitar, but a little much IMO.

fatape, You're eeeee-vil! I just sat here and watched 30 minutes of baby monkey vids ferchristsake! Lookit dis!! How effin cute can ya get!! lol! And now I had to watch my favorite - Koko the gorilla. Oh, don't let that innocent face fool you, Koko is a wild one!

Almost an hour watching feckin vids now! lol!

CHadley, The last few bios I've read are all drug addicted, alcoholic rock star stories. Nikki is a key writer in the Motley Crue book The Dirt. I'm now reading his book The Heroin Diaries. Unbelievable how disgusting people become under the influence of substance abuse, how much money is spent, and how much physical, personal, and family damage is done. The great part about most of these stories is that guys like Sixx, T-Lee, Anthony Kiedis, Steven Adler (sooo effin destructive to himself!), and even George Carlin all went through their dark times, and came out to shine after they quit it all. Yer just a pup, so by quitting drinking now, and staying sober, and learning to do healthier things to have fun, well dude, yer way ahead of the game! Lots of people can drink and have no problem. Lots of people can't. Ya gotta know the diff, and you do, so hi 5!

L.A.! This Fri 10/29 celebrate Halloween with Bombastic Meatbats feat. Chad Smith at Harper's Bar & Grille 10p 818.342.9300 Check it!

Red Hot Chili Peppers 'Halfway Through' Next Album, Says Drummer

Chad Smith is happy to be releasing a sophomore album by his instrumental band the Bombastic Meatbats, even if his "day job" in the Red Hot Chili Peppers and his other moonlighting gig in Chickenfoot make it hard to squeeze in time for everything.

"Yeah, it shows it's not just a one-off," Smith tells Billboard.com about "More Meat," the group's follow-up to 2009's "Meet the Meatbats." "It gives it a little more credence. It's like, 'OK, it's something real and it's going somewhere.' That is important to us."

Sammy Hagar on Sharing Chickenfoot Drummer with Chili Peppers, Autobiography

Smith says the Meatbats were able to delve deeper into its influences on "More Meat," and the set even includes a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick," the late John Bonham's in-concert showpiece that Smith says he had to be talked into performing. "I wasn't all that gung-ho about it," Smith acknowledges. "Covering Led Zeppelin is like covering the Beatles; it's okay live, but to put it on the record... But it is an instrumental song and we are an instrumental band, so it's a homage, I guess."

The Meatbats start a run of dates today that includes three nights at New York's Iridium Jazz Club Nov. 19-21 and four December shows in Colorado. Smith says the group is hoping to make a Midwest run in 2011 but says much depends on his other bands -- the Chili Peppers in particular.

"I'd say we're about halfway through" the follow-up to 2006's Grammy Award-winning "Stadium Arcadium," Smith says. "We're going in every day and we make music. Things are going well and everybody's playing well and it's a fun time. It sounds like Chili Peppers to me, but different. We have a different guy [new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer] and different sounds and we've added some different elements -- some keyboards and percussions. But it still sounds like us. It's early but it's good." The group also participated in the new coffee table book, "The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History."

Smith adds that Klinghoffer, who replaces two-time Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, is working out well. "Josh is great. We've known him a long time. He's super-talented, smart, handsome. He fits in perfectly, which is a good thing."

Smith is also expecting to do some recording with Chickenfoot in January for its second album, but he says going on the road to support it is unlikely for him due to the Chili Peppers' anticipated touring schedule. But he's OK with the idea of Chickenfoot finding another drummer to occupy his chair for live dates.

"They have to," says Smith, who also plays on Kid Rock's upcoming album "Born Free." "I can't [tour], and they know it. We just want to make a great record, and when it comes time to tour they can get somebody they want to play with. It's fine with me. There's a bunch of people that always call me and say, 'Hey, I hear you're not doing Chickenfoot. I want to do it.' So they'll find somebody good."

its rather hard to enjoy or get into bucket head by listening to random songs, his music is very diverse and same goes for the albums... its a mixed back of everything when you just click random shit

"colma" was the first one that initially got me into him

civgeek - yah, that was an awesome live version of Night of the Slunk!

BUCKETHEAD for G3 I say!!!!

I'm sure since Joe taught Larry Lalonde of Primus, and given BH's extensive work with Les Claypool and Bryan "Brain" Mantia of Primus, it might be just that much easier to hook up to jam. (Buckethead has listed Joe as an influence, at least according to Wiki)

Another nice product Joe :)

Why does my spell check underline Satriani? Have I not written that at least 5 million times already? You'd think it would have a fit and then just get over it!! Add it to the dictionary already!!

Skippy- I've been waiting for a reply from Sony for about 2 weeks now; one of my autographed booklets got damaged during shipping. From the sound of things, I shouldn't expect that they'll do anything to fix it. It's a shame that they just gave you your money back rather than send you a replacement, even if you would have had to wait until Joe comes off tour to sign a new one. I'm sure you're not the only one whose CD got lost or damaged. They should have kept 40 or 50 extra signed booklets in reserve for such an occasion.

I've gotten myself so worked up about that I don't remember what else I was gonna post!

Turbo236 - I can't believe my bad luck. How hard can it be to post 2 CD's to Australia? I receive items from Amazon and Barnes & Noble no problem. The weird thing is they reckon they shipped it on the 29th, yet it never came into Australia. I guess someone pinched it before it left the US.

The auto-email-bod-webform thing is a bit annoying, but they did respond after a couple of days, with an auto-email-bod template reply. No offer of sending a replacement, although I would imagine they posted all the signed CD's and didn't have any left. So I asked for a refund and they did it inside 24 hrs. It would have been better to have a phone number so you can discuss it with a human but large scale fulfilment means they automate everything.

*SIGH*Dammit**bugger*bwaaahhhhhh*sheesh!*FFS*

Blue Al - yer I bought one at the local music store, it just isn't signed. I bought the one with the bonus tracks on ebay and amazingly, unlike Sony, it made it all the way from the US to Australia inside a week.

Scube - LOL, just remember to put a return in after your last sentence cos it drops the marketing plug text straight after.

Its our turn for a tour Joe!!

Cheese- I picked up one of those Chrome Dome picks a while back; it also came with a set of Joe's signature picks. Probably the same pack that Chris got. It made some neat sounds with pick scrapes and such, but hard as I tried, I couldn't really get in to just playing with it. It was just a little too thick for my liking. And the JS logo wore off after a couple days!

I'm really enjoying the Brain Picks- switching between the .88's and the 1's. I am a fan of the Planet Waves Smart Picks as well, but the Brain Picks have a hell of a grip on them, which is important to me because I get a lot of pain in my hands when I play. I probably focus more on holding on to my pick than I do my playing, lol!

Edit

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"

Are there any restrictions for photo cameras? Can I take a small, non-professional camera to a concert and take photos with it? I ask about the gig in Cologne (if there are restrictions which were made especially for particular gigs).
