Zen - for me.. the altime most soulful recording of guitar ever is:

SRV - Little Wing...

jazzy - I'm not exactly famous or even in a small way remotely successful....

but still, compared with the achievements of my pals... I managed to go much further..... tours, albums... and getting onto the family tree of prog rock in my own little tiny way...

and for the little tiny mark I've made... I feel totally lucky to have been given the chance..

962 - I can to some limited degree play righties.... I throw them over so the strings are upsidedown.... it ain't so bad.. after a wjhile you sort of get used to it...

maybe I'll try one out....

I heard that the ToneZone was based upon the PAF PRO tonal characteristics...
but they wanted more power and less string pull..
that sounds like a reasonable development to me.. but I've heard folks complain that harmonics just don't pop out at you like they do with the Evo...
personally I don't know... I've never tried them..

mikesb - yup.. that's the version of exiles that I played on... the accoustic playing is not me though... I wish it was.... lol.. I only played accoustic on the verses etc.. and all the electrics....

I mailed Mikey about Tokyo... we are talking... so if his schedule allows.. I'll meet him there... how cool is that...

steeveT - I was a drummer before I was a guitarist..... I still love drums..... sometimes I wish I still had a kit...

the thing with War that gets me is the groove is so nice in the funky section where Satch really tears it up....
I've seen him play this track live many times.... most often without a rhythm player.. and it really don't move when it's just the bass playing that groove alone... but when Eric was around, War sounded awesome live..

mowlie - your tone on that track is real nice... crisp and tight... but I guess that's as much the player and the rest of your rig as the pickups themselves..

I could drop a lead part on there if you want.....
send me a copy of the backing track on CD....
when I get a little time I'll see what I can come up with...

vocals would be nice... but for me.. when I write a song.. the melody and lyrics are all writen at the same time as the backing track.... as one entity tends to guide the other.. and then vice versa...

funny.. when I wrote Talking to Stone, it was originally a song... I happened to record myself noodling over the backing track and ended up posting it on IUMA... funny really... everyone knows it as an instrumental.. but infact.. I still think of the song... lol..

optical - do you have cubase? if so... you can sync the sequencer to the studio.... and then get the automation running.... it can be a pain in the rear to get running.... but it's worth the pain...
imagine this... you do an almost perfect mix but the snare is too quiet and a lead break on the guitar vanishes when the notes start getting into the lower ranges....

so.. you'd have to re-mix the song.. that means playing the faders the same way next time and fixing the errors....

with automation, your last mix-down is saved as a song in cubase.. so.. you do a "save as" to create another mix without destroying the previous version [so you can always revert if you need to..
you can then lift the volume of the snare... and then go to the lead guitar track and make the volume gently rise and the pitch drops on the guitar, and then gently return to the nominal volume again... so the volume of the guitar sounds even to your ears...

it takes quite some time to set up a mix... but subsequent mix-downs as you search for your best version are easy...

you then hit play, sit back and let cubase play the desk for you as you record the mixed versoin....

once you master this you'll never turn back

jazzzzy, "OWNS Van Halen"....oooh, that ain't gonna go down well with Zenfish! haha

michelle, it's "Time Boogie".....yeah it's kinda quirky isn't it? It'd probably suit something like The Grinch. Glad you liked The Eye Of Ra! Thanks, for checkin them out
mikesb, yeah it figures, tho I have to disagree with Nuno! hehe, I think he has written some that are better (i'm gonna take some shit for that, I can feel it coming)
mowlie, thanks a lot for checkin out The Eye Of Ra! Glad you liked it.....yeah, the drum track is horrible, hehe. It really gets on my tits.....when I have a day free, some spare patience, and my PC is being well-behaved, I'll probs re-write the drum track.
Clarky, interesting comment on harmonics - if it's based of the PAF Pro tonalities, then it would stand to reason that the PAF Pro harmonics are hard work too - I personally find the harmonics of the PAF Pro easier to work with than I did those of the Evo's in my Jem.

Is there a Fred 7? I guess not, but if there were, it'd be worth having! I dunno man, I reckon you'd be pleasantly surprised by one of the Air/Tone Zone's. If you can play a rightie well enough to hear it's tones, then definitely try it if you get the opportunity.

opticalstudio, thanks dude, you're too kind! also, I wasn't saying I didn't like Red Square....I was just wondering what it was about that track which made it stand out from the others, cause obviosuly I hear these tunes from a very different perspective than everybody else does, so it's useful for me to get feedback, just like yours!

Yeah that makes sense, I think the guitar tones ahve come out pretty tidy on the track, and the harmonies compliment each other nicely. I'd like to get the bridge problems fixed so it's tuning is more stable, then re-record the track, so the tuning is perfect, but as it is, the tones are only about 1/16th flat or sharp when they are out. Oh, apart from that miserably failed Satch-whail, which, when I brought it back to pitch, was about a quarter-tone flat! hehe. I'm also aware that i'm more familiar with these discrepencies than everyone else, so what I've just written (above) may not make sense!

PFields, man with that budget, you should go on ebay. ebay is a buyers' market, so you ought to be able to pickup something really special. You might even see something older, like a Saber or Roadstar, that has been done up.....those can, as long as they are in good condition, be an excellent find.

(AP) - Eight soldiers are challenging the Army's policy requiring them to serve longer than the terms of their enlistment contracts. In a lawsuit being filed Monday in federal court, the soldiers are seeking a judge's order requiring the Army to immediately release them from service. "The Army made an agreement with me and I expected them to honor it," said David Qualls, one of the plaintiffs. He signed up in July 2003 for a one-year stint in the Arkansas National Guard but has been told he will remain on active duty in Iraq until next year.

Hi Satch!

I'm brazilian and I'd like to THANK YOU for the G3 concert here, last weekend. It's so good to see you and Steve Vai together, and I hope to see again. When my friend told me that you two had signed his guitar, I couldn't believe. In this times, I think "why am I so unlucky?" Not even a pick I got but next time I try.

A big hug from a big fan of yours,

Douglas Cioffi

hello JOe JOe !!i hope u're fine..I'm a French Fan,i see u in concert in France at Olympia,it was so good!,and i follow u're creations from "flying in a blue dream" to "is there love in space" and i am proud to speak about u to friends because when they listen u're album they think "o great its uncredible" they think how a man could do this,it's seems like an alien style !!So i see that even u write many songs, they are all different and personnaly i think u're the bigger influence for me(i play guitar too).when i listen to u i imagine some universe like stars and something unknow by the humans, something like u feel when u're flying in space , it's uncredible, and if u feel all of this when u play , that's why the meening of u're songs are so deep and so true!!Thanks Joe for everything u give to me and i will let u with my favorite song "if i could fly"..
