Good Morning Satchland....... What Up Today?
Mari...... Thanks so much. Yes, we're very proud of our boys. I'm so happy for them. It's lookin' like they have a great future ahead of them. The pic of the guitar is the model I've chosen. Differences.... The neck will have in line tuners. Diamond inlays on neck. No Fishman, Floyd Rose, and Black Hardware. Black Burst edges around the guitar, not as shown. She's a beut. I can't wait. Hugs
mikesb...... Yes, that's his hair....lol..... Incredible vid. In Japan, they call him "Hands Without Shadows" cuz of his speed. He had that tatooed on his arm. You can see this on his home page Awesome player. Notice he turns his pick perpendicular to the strings for speed. Interesting technique. To me, all though impressive....Where's The Soul ? The Feeling? The Melody? That's what sets Joe a part from anyone. His sense of Melody. Beutiful Melodies. That's what sticks in your head. Try humming an Batio line......
Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! ! !

MikeSB - shame that video...
shame about the gutar tone, shame about the composition too..
but flawless and jaw-dropping technique...
the shame is, here and there he shows these little moments that contrain some really nice lines and cool licks....
they're just not around long enough so they lose they're effect..
in a sense... to much speed can kill....
I think Petrucci can suffer like this too...
amazing really...
getting that good has killed his music..
I'd like to see him be less dependant upon speed, play from within and simply use bursts of speed more for effect...

Clarky..... How ya doing? My point exactly. To much speed kills. It's amazing and I respect him a lot. I think we all know what it takes to play like that. But..... Where's the Melody?

Kenico - funnily enough, I see all that technique as being maybe wasted a little....
it's like a means to an end..
to me, music and the creative forces come from deep within...
to be driven by emontion and passion...
both composition and performance have to come from that same origin...
don't get me wrong, high technique and virtuosity are part of the instrumental experience.. and are effective tools with which to create and deliver specific emotional content..
but for me, this sort of stuff is simply an effect, like a delay or phaser etc.. as the moment cries out, you utilise the effect...
the there's a time to hold back, a time to be sparce, a time to scream, and a time to tear it up....
but when it's all mostly a technical display and little else, it seems to me like the tail is wagging the dog..
and the outcome is more akin to a circus freak-show..
lots of spellbinding amazement..
but once the "ooooohh!!... aaahhh!!!" factor has worn off...
what remains..??
OCPS - dude.. on the DC front, I'm prepping for our next gig..
which is 22nd Feb in Rome...
should be a blast...
and I have been very busy with other stuff....
watch this space.. lmao...

Clarky.....
I know what you mean. Joe does exactly what you said:
the there's a time to hold back, a time to be sparce, a time to scream, and a time to tear it up....
Look at the differences between say "Love Thing"
and "Satch Boogie" Joe could shred over 'Love Thing" but it wouldn't fit. His sense of Melody and direction floor me. With Joe it's the perfect tone, perfect melody over a well thought out progression. I loose all that when it comes to listening to all out shred. Using it wisely(likeJoe) is a much better approch. You reach your audience with feeling and melody....not a barrage of notes. Like you said...When the WOW ! ! ! factor wears off....there's nothing left.

And you know what Kenny and Clarky??
Speed is dead easy to play/perform compared to that tricky mid-tempo stuff... I can play fast and I can play slow but I could never get that supercool Schenker fluid effortless mid-tempo stuff to save me life...... Nammster, we try you know.....
