I'm sorry for not getting the video up yet because it is taking much longer than it actually should. Hopefully within two days. Even though I said that a few days ago.

@Crystal Jammer- Isn't it considered stealing if they are using HFOB on their show regardless if somebody is covering or not?? I mean it isn't Youtube where people just put songs on all the time. Television has more rules when it comes to copyright infringement. Light Years Away has a good groove, nice powerful riffs, and a nice solo which has some fusion in it, which Joe doesn't usually venture into. But he did a nice job with it. It also had a hip-hop drum beat which I have never heard in a Satriani song before. But he did say a little bit of hip-hop would even be in the album. Although I personally like the song a lot, I sorta get what you're saying by it being ok, because it only has two different riffs, a short melody, and one solo. You think it sounds ok, because it is in a very simple form, which I understand. But his other song, It's So Good was in a simple form, but it's one of my favorites.

Here's Joe exact quote about It's So Good: "It was exciting to craft this one because there are layers of guitar- rhythm, melody, solo- but it's built around a simple chord pattern. It just felt so right. The groove was so deep. Some Bob Marley songs are like that: They're so powerful, yet when you look at them you go, 'Oh, my God, everyone is playing so little!' Then, once the lyric is added, it becomes a really strong statement. But, since this is an instrumental, I tried to find unique, fun sounds for all the guitars that would pull it all together in that same way."

Simple isn't always mediocre. It depends on the sound of the song. But don't I'm trying to disprove your opinion, because I can understand where you're coming from with your statement.

Hmmm...I just got the latest newseltter, and it looks like I'll be taking a road trip up to Napa on October 6. Who here will be joining me? Tracie, can you make another trip so soon after Chickenfoot?

And Peace Lily, I think this is the show you need to make your road trip for. :-)

Im sooo tired im like halusinationg but I had to come in and say HOLY SHIT... about everything. haha.....

Just got back from seeing Dave Matthews Band here in town, and MAN, I am HURTING! Alberta Cross opened for them at 7, DMB started at 8:30 and played straight through til 10:30, then came back for a 2 song encore. I don't do well standing for more than about 30 minutes because of my bum leg so this was murder! It's got me a little worried about Chickenhoe.. On top of all that I think I am starting to come down with something, so it was all I could do to focus on the show, but it was really good; Alberta Cross and DMB both.

This was my first time seeing both bands. I will probably track down an Alberta Cross CD tomorrow. Dave played quite a few songs that I didn't recognize; partly because we were about 3 people back from the stage and the sound system kept cutting out at the front, so we had to listen from the side, and partly because there were several songs I had never heard before because I don't listen to DMB all that much.
Here is a copy of the set list from the show tonight. A couple that really stood out to me are: Crush, Gravedigger, Spaceman, an AWESOME rendition of All Along the Watchtower (Tim Reynolds really lit this one on fire), and Dave's solo performance of Some Devil after the encore.

It was a surprise to me that Tim Reynolds was playing with the band, so I perked up quite a bit when I saw them setting up a guitar stand and pedal board. I don't think I would have liked the show as much if he hadn't been there.
I've got about 185 pictures to go through, I'm sure there are some blurry ones to delete, but hopefully I'll upload them in the next couple days and I'll post a link here.
And lastly

Austin- I'll have to double check with my girlfriend on our travel plans for Tahoe because she is arranging everything, but I believe we are actually driving down Thursday (poss. Wed. night) and checking out of our hotel on Monday. We've already discussed eating at Cabo Wabo, so I'm sure we could make that happen. As long as I get to stop an In-N-Out on our way through Nevada and I don't get another speeding ticket in Oregon everything should be fine!

Cheese/Tracie- I thought you could cancel/change reservations for hotels made through travel agencies such as hotels.com, you just have to make sure you cancel through them and not the hotel you are staying at. It's been at least a year since I've done it, so maybe they have changed their policy. Also, see my above message to Austin regarding Cabo Wabo if you and Chris are interested. It would be great if Freddy and Shannon could make it again this year...

Shannon- My email is usaf_eod_03@yahoo.com. I met you guys at the concert last year and would love to see you make it again this year. If there is anything I can do to facilitate that, please don't hesitate to ask me or any of the rest of us that are going.

Sorry for the long post-

Ian

Ohhh. Napa. As much as I'd like to see the fan appreciation gig, that's an almost 11 hour drive for me. If it weren't so close to the 9-ish hour drive I'm making to Chickenhoe in a couple weeks I'd seriously consider it.

Looks like I'll have to hold out for Reno and/or hopefully Portland....

At least the bonus tracks off the album aren't gonna be iTunes exclusives like with Ghosts and PSATMOR. Although I'll probably just buy the entire album outright; I remember webby Jon mentioning the non effected LIP tracks Joe selected to be included on the special edition of BSAWW. Hopefully this is what he was talking about...

Hi Joe...the new single is almost perfect. The solo...you finally avoid the blues lick, like you were going to do it but then turned to something else...love it. A question though, you are no longer using the JSX, but your tone is somewhat similar, is it because of the sacthurator? Thanks Joe, you're great. PS: You're too skinny, you could get sick easily if you don't get enough fat.

death cube... duh... sorry about that. Yes, I have the pitch factor. I also use the Line 6 Pod X3 Live (that I'm sure of, lol), and so I get my modulation from that unit. Don't use modulation a lot except a bit of chorus. Other toys include Vox Big Bad Wah, Digitech Whammy, Vox Saturator, and Digitech Timebender (echo). Playing an Ibanez JS2400 through a Peavey JSX Mini Colossal. I record my music through a USB interface into my computer (Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 4.0 software... 32 tracks).

I was going to buy the Vox Ice-9, but I got all kinds of overdrive and distortion going on. I would have to borrow the unit to see what it can and cannot do within my setup, and not too many music stores allow that.

Hey! Did I miss some good news?!

Did Joe get the Chromeboy back? Or is that video shoot of Light Years Away a new model? I thought I remembered reading somewhere a long time ago that originally there were 2 or 3 chrome prototypes made.. it sure would be nice if Joe got the original one that was stolen back.

Does anyone know?

smooches,

Yeah Austin, u know if there's a show anywhere this side of the world, we're gonna do our best to be there :) It's such a small venue, 860 SEATS (who the hell wants to sit at a rock show!!!) but pre-tour??? OH YEAH!!! Just gotta figure out the deets and get the tickets.......maybe we can sleep in the car for 2 nights.......oh and with the special TWO bonus tracks on the Best Buy release, guess I'll be driving over to Medford the day before to buy them in-store...that'll make 4 copies.......Joe is my drug of choice, lol!!

Turbo Ian, sure you can cancel with any online reservation, but Hotwire.com makes you pay anyway. Even hotels.com is no guarantee, some hotels charge you a one-nights stay if you cancel after reserving. It sucks monkey balls when it happens. Did you mention CaboWabo FOOD???? :))))) We'll be in Tahoe Friday night and in line Saturday so I'm sure we can all work something out!

Oh and, just so this trip isn't tainted with a ticket....SLOWWWWWW DOWWWWWWWN!

Phydeaux_3, I don't think Joe ever got back the chromie that was stolen from him, but he had more than one. He has one that he keeps in mint condition for photos, videos, etc, and if I'm not mistaken, he has another that he plays on. He can borrow mine anytime he needs a minty though, lol!!

Grampy Steve, LOL! Okay, that's outta my system, so how about some baby stories...how's yer grandson?
