This was my 3rd G3 show and by far the best one of the bunch. Why? That tall skinny guy with the big ears. Besides being a great guitar player, Gilbert is truly a "genuine" soul: funny, passionate, entertaining, and most of all....HUMBLE.
Petrucci was HEAVY and LOUD, he played with 'spot-on' technical precision, but still was his same boring self on stage - no surprise there. Portnoy is amazing - he seemed to lose his concentration on occassion, which caused his timing to be off now and then, but his skills never missed a beat (no pun intended), he's insane - highly entertaining - and truly the best part of John's set!
Joe was his usual masterful self - again, no surprise.
Paul was simply the life of the party.
The G3 jam was as amazing as always - except this time Gilbert's vocals and antics made it as much of a SHOW as a jam session - kudos Paul!
Minor drawbacks of the show: Gilbert's set was too short, Petrucci was too loud, and the mix during the final jam was skewed.
This is one show that has to be seen to be believed - words alone can not do it justice. If you have the chance to see it, you'd be a FOOL not to - concerts don't get any better than this!
